Antelope Canyon ~Upper Slot

A while ago we went to see Antelope Canyon using a Groupon.

I highly recommend going to Antelope Canyon and if you can use a Groupon…

by all means do it!

A driver from Blue Feather Tours picked us and a few friends up in Flagstaff, AZ.

He drove us to Page, AZ but with a few pit stops along the way.

First Stop was Horseshoe Bend near Lake Powell.

Many of my shots were ruined because of a selfie stick. It’s exactly why National Parks have banned them. The Navajos are very close to doing so as well.)

After Horseshoe Bend we stopped for lunch which was provided for by the tour company. It was quite good and we sat and looked at this.

Off we went to a Page parking lot to wait for our Navajo to take us to Antelope Canyon. The Navajos are your private tour guides for Antelope Canyon as it is on the Navajo Reservation.

Our entertainment is a  Navajo Hoop Dance while we wait. He was amazing!

Took this picture of the wash we went through to get to the Upper Slot of Antelope Canyon. The Navajos will cancel tours if there is a chance of rain. This wash can flood quickly.

We arrive and so do many other tours!

IMG_3747IMG_3748Yes it was crowded… but we were in a small group and our Navajo Guide made sure we stopped and got our shots.

      1. I thoroughly have enjoyed my visit to you and your sister’s blog! You both have a great sense of humor, and eye for photography and such awesome wisdom!

  1. Fantastic photos. You seriously don’t want to be in those narrow canyons when a flash flood washes through.

  2. Excellent! I really wanted to visit Antelope Canyon when we were camped in Page, but the weather was less than agreeable. I’ll keep trying.

    1. Ingrid… you will love it. I need to get over to your blog. I need to see where you are at and what trouble you have gotten into!! 😉
I actually have wifi today! Hooray!!

      1. Unfortunately no trouble to be had as I’m laying low recovering from a MILD case of Valley Fever 🙁

  3. We do need to do this tour the next time we are in the area. Everyone’s photos are so beautiful. Love all your gorgeous shots of the beauty:) It doesn’t look like there is anyone around.

    1. I have so many pictures of this place but it could have gotten a bit ridiculous if I posted them all. You really need to go, Pam. But please try to go with a small group… it truly is the better way.

  4. Fantastic photos! Places like these always make me wonder what it must have been like to come across them when the area was unmapped wilderness. It must have really felt like stepping into another, mystical world.

    1. Oh what a fabulous thought! I was truly amazed of how beautiful this place was. I now would like to go to the lower slot.

    1. It is absolutely beautiful! Please try to go. Thank You for popping over to see the pictures… a fun place to photograph.

  5. Antelope Canyon is amazing, Nancy, and you captured it so purely.

    Yes to Elvis’ profile. Indeed.

And, Nancy, the Fire and Your Favorite? I think they are sensuous photos reminding me of lovers bringing the heat into their souls.

Great post, with passionate picture work. I’m glad the shot of you doing what you love is the capper, too. <3

  6. What a great idea…incredible pictures. Probably not the best time to think about going with monsoon, so do you think it would make more sense in the winter???

    1. Oh yes! They will cancel with a slight threat of rain.
So best to plan for the winter… plus it’s cooler too.

  7. Hi Nancy,

I saw this post on my iPhone when Dean was surfing one day and I forgot to comment when I got home. Silly me. As usual I love your photos and laughed so much at the Elvis Presley Profile.

  8. Gorgeous photos.

I think you really captured the ‘Antelope Experience’ so well. You peeled it off in layers from the beautiful ride up, the selfie stick , the always a shock of the ‘shared’ experience, the flash flood consideration priorities, and that moment when you are standing there in/with and the whole world consists of you and the slots and you can’t imagine your camera can capture it.

Well….your camera sure captured it. Well done Nancy!

    1. What a fabulous synopsis of my most amazing day there! YOU, my dear have such a beautiful way with words.
I am on my phone and wifi is iffy. I need to catch up with you and your novel. I will when I am able my friend!
