Kauai

It’s funny… Before we went to Hawaii I had the idea that each island was the same. Boy, was I wrong! Each island is different and has it’s own feel.

This was the one island that we did do an excursion with from Princess Cruise. It was well worth it. It was an all day affair with a wonderful Polynesian lunch.

Our first stop was The Grand Canyon of the Pacific. Being from Arizona I was wondering if the comparison would be correct.

This Canyon, Waimea Canyon, is a bit more green and lush but the comparison was spot on! We were truly amazed of its size and grandeur!

Our tour guide kept us on time as we had lots to see! But first another picture of a rooster. They are everywhere!

Back down to the ocean to see all of its beauty!

We headed for Spouting Horn Park.

The beach area is lava rock with lava tubes. Lava tubes according to Wikipedia are … “A lava tube is a natural conduit formed by flowing lava which moves beneath the hardened surface of a lava flow. Tubes can drain lava from a volcano during an eruption, or can be extinct, meaning the lava flow has ceased, and the rock has cooled and left a long cave.” (Quoted from Wikipedia.)

Another amazing sight to see! The water enters the lava tube and then you have the following! Wait for it!

Onto the bus and it was time for lunch.

This restaurant was a delight to the eyes! So much to view while eating a very delicious meal.

But our tour bus was awaiting to take us to our next stop!

Mahalo means thank you and A Hui Hou means Until We Meet Again.

When we planned this trip I said to sweet man… I want to see waterfalls! He made sure I did!

These Falls are called… Opaekaa Falls. Such a beautiful sight!

Incredible!

The river below is where we need to go next as we are going on a river cruise. 😊

We arrive for our river boat cruise. To our surprise the boat is full with people.

On the boat we have a family who provides lovely music and Hawaiian Dancing.

Our river boat docks and we hike about a half mile through a tropical forest to the Fern Grotto.

The Fern Grotto is a lovely area where these ferns grow. A tropical beauty!

A lovely day was had! I highly recommend this excursion.

Next stop is the Big Island, Hawaii where the Kilauea Volcano erupted one week after we came home. When we were there… the Volcano had become somewhat active. My heart is sad for the island. The part affected is the southeastern area and some pictures that I will share in my next post may have been damaged by lava. But remember, it’s a Big Island and most of the island still has plenty of beauty to share.
