Tuesday Tidbits #125 The Calendar Says May

Hello friends. Thanks for stopping by for Tuesday Tidbits.

It’s starting to warm up here in The Valley of the Sun… aka Phoenix, Arizona. So that means we get up a bit earlier to get our outdoor activities done in the cooler temperatures.

The Season for Saguaro Blooms

My walks and bike rides are earlier and I have enjoyed the saguaros blooming in our neighborhood and all around the area. They tend to bloom a bit later in the Spring then the other cacti.

They are always fun to spot!

Spring in the Sonoran Desert

The other cacti are still blooming as well. Here is my neighbor’s pink cacti.

Pretty in Pink!

And these purple blossoms found on this particular tree is a delight to the eyes.

Spring in the desert is wonderful!

Look at all these blooms… and more to come as well.
Such beautiful blooms!

Adventures Continue

We did get out for a small adventure this week to an abandoned Pumice Quarry.

Opal could be found on the surface of some of the Pumice.

This Opal fluoresces a bright green under UV light.

Backyard Gardening

I did enjoy spending time taking care of some overgrowth in our backyard. Lots of trimming but this little guy can see out into the yard now!

He enjoys sitting in my heart garden.

And my white petrified wood that has quite a bit of Druzy on it can be easily seen now.

The white rock standing is Petrified Wood. It was found in light soil which gives it the light color.

This Weeks Creature Feature!

This one is quite colorful!
He moved into the shade!

With warmer temperatures the lizards come out to play. We enjoy watching them do push ups on top of our backyard wall.

Kentucky Derby

Every year we enjoy watching the race. We did not have a party this year but we made sure to join in the fun with those who attended Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. Mint Juleps for the both of us!

Did your horse win? Our horses did not. But it’s so fun to watch along with all the Hats and Outfits!

Thank You!

It’s always nice to hear from you. Thanks goes out to all of you for following along. I appreciate your kindness. Sending well wishes for you to have a beautiful Tuesday and a lovely week ahead.

  2. The desert blooms are truly amazing, Nancy. I never realized all the cacti blooms were so pretty until I met you in the blogging world. Your adventures are always so interesting. I didn’t watch the Derby, we were welcoming Wyatt and Mommy home from the hospital. I love seeing all the hats.

    1. Hello Sweet Pam… I’m so glad that I have shared all these beautiful cacti blooms. That way you know why we enjoy this time of year out here.
We enjoy our adventures too. They keep us young.
Sending hugs to your dear Pam. Enjoy your Tuesday my friend.

  3. Those cactus blooms never cease to amaze me, and that unusual tree looks like a Bauhinias – commonly known as a Hong Kong Orchid Tree.

    1. Well Clare I may have to look into that. Thank you for letting me know about that kind of tree.
I’m so happy you get to see these cacti blooms. Are there cacti or succulents in your country of Australia? Is there a desert there?
Happy Day my friend. It’s always so good to hear from you!

      1. (I saw this on my way to work, then forgot to reply when I got home – sorry) Yes to both. We have lots of succulents, many commercially available, and about 20% of our continent is dessert – red and hot and, when we were travelling around Australia, we were in the hottest part of our country when it was the hottest place on earth at the time. It was 45 degrees C or 113 degrees F. Hot!!

      2. I remember when you were traveling all around Australia. Thank you for letting me know about your deserts as well as succulents. Happy Weekend Clare!

  4. Those Saguaro blooms are gorgeous and so exotic looking to my Southern-eyes Nancy! Wishing you a Happy week ♥

    1. Thank you so much Mary! We call them our Desert Spring Bonnets. And thank you so much for a lovely week. You do the same dear friend.

  5. Having never been to a desert, I never knew how many beautiful flowers and cacti there are! I have never seen white petrified wood. I have a piece but it is a reddish brown color. Your garden is gorgeous as well Nancy. If I lived there I would be taking pictures every day.

    1. Thank you so much Diane. I try to share as many pictures of the desert as I can so that many can see the vast beauty of it. Plus Arizona is absolutely gorgeous!
      Thank you for enjoying!
Have a wonderful weekend my friend!

  6. Such beautiful photos of blooms – would love to see them one day. I also find your knowledge of rocks so impressive – pumice with opal and petrified wood with crystals are fascinating.

    1. Thank you my friend. Sweet man and I belong to a Rock and Gem Club. I have learned a lot over the years due to that membership. I hope you come to Arizona one day. Lots to see and do!
      Thank you for the visit!

    1. Thank you so very much! Sometimes the good camera comes out. I am glad you enjoyed the bee captures!
