4 Years!

It’s been four years since I started Tuesday Tidbits! I have enjoyed sharing what we do over here at Two Trails One Road on a weekly basis. Thanks for putting up with me every week. I’m so grateful that we get to spend some time together on Tuesdays over here in BlogLand. Your support is appreciated as well as your lovely comments. It’s been a wonderful 4 years! Here’s to many more. Thank you friends!

Big Bend National Park

Last week I shared that we went on a Road Trip to Texas. You can read about the first part of our trip here. One of our stops was Big Bend National Park. I am about to do a photo drop… so be prepared.

As soon as we entered the park we could see beautiful mountains from all around.

As we were driving I saw this amazing hill with rock at the top. I found it to be very interesting.

So cool!

In fact, around every turn, we saw another landscape… more interesting then the last.

Back Road Trails at Big Bend

Since we had our 4×4 Jeep we were able to go off the paved road and head for some back trails. This is what we chose to do to get down to the Rio Grande River.

Here we are taking the off road trail.

We came across this long house or Jacal. Gilberto Luna raised a large family in this house and lived here until 1947 where he turned 108.

I loved how the trail was lined with Yuccas.

The mountain wall is Mexico.

At the end of our off road trail… we came to a parking lot where we parked. We then walked down to the Rio Grande to view the Santa Elena canyon and the river.

As we walked we saw trees that were carved by beavers!

Wow!

Seeing the canyon with the Rio Grande was spectacular!

The walls are 1500 ft. high. That mountain wall, on the other side of the river, is Mexico.

On the other side of the river we saw a wild horse.

There were two more back in the bush.

Hot Springs~

The Hot Springs at Big Bend is about 105 degrees. It’s heated by geothermal processes. It’s the remnants of the Langford Bathhouse which was part of a resort in 1909.

When you see the palm trees… you are very close to the Hot Springs.

It was a very warm day when we hiked down to the springs. 105 degrees did not sound refreshing. I am sure if the air temperature was a bit cooler… I would have dipped my toes.

We spent two days at Big Bend National Park and spent our nights at Ten Bits Ranch in Terlingua, Texas. We highly recommend staying at Ten Bits Ranch. What a wonderful time we had exploring and sight seeing! This National Park is definitely worth visiting.

  3. You guys had yourselves quite an adventure, and I love the rock on a rock. I must admit I wouldn’t have been brave enough to tackle the off road trail with all that is going on in that part of the country. I’m glad you traveled safely, saw wonderful landscape, and got some great photos. Happy Tuesday and Happy 4th Anniversary!

      To be honest… if you saw the 1500 ft. wall that is on the border… it would take a super hero to be able to cross the border at the areas we were at in the park.

    1. This park does not get as much traffic as it is so far south. It’s beautiful and it’s big!

  10. Congratulations for the 4th anniversary of Tuesday Tidbits. I always enjoy your posts.
    We loved the Big Bend region when we were there for our honeymoon in 2009. Your post here reminds me of the many wonderful sights we saw there.
