Tuesday Tidbits #264 March On!

Good Tuesday to You!

It’s getting close to St. Patrick’s Day. Do you celebrate the day? Do you wear green? Is there a parade in your city?

I like to celebrate with food the week of St. Patrick’s Day. We enjoy Reubens from the local bar and grill but I have made homemade as well. I always make corn beef and Cabbage in the crock pot. Do you add beer to yours when you make it? I usually add a Guinness to mine.

It adds a richness to the corn beef and cabbage.

Irish Soda Bread.

I even made Irish Soda Bread and you can see it here.

A slice of goodness!

Homemade Irish Cream

Green beer does not have to be your beverage of choice for the green day. I enjoyed making homemade Irish Cream and it was quite tasty. Take a look here.

I added the homemade Irish Cream to the coffee and topped it with whipped cream!

Delicious Potato Pancakes.

Yesterday, I made potato pancakes with shredded potatoes. My mother would make a similar recipe. They weren’t Irish but they sure were delicious!

We loved them.

I like to make the kitchen festive and I use my Beleek Irish Mugs, honey pot, vase and shamrock tea towels. Green is added throughout the house as well. I guess I like to make each holiday fun and St. Patrick’s Day is always included in the merriment!

A little greenery added to the family room.
More greenery.

When I taught, I had so much fun with the kids on St. Patrick’s Day. I ensured the leprechaun shenanigans happened the minute they entered the room until they left at the end of the day.

Chairs were overturned, small green footprints from spilled green paint were all over the desks, every green toy was pulled off the shelves, green candy was placed in a bowl, the juice was turned green, and green glitter was scattered. I made sure the children built a trap so that they could catch the leprechaun. By the end of the day, we did not catch the leprechaun, but we did get a bucket of candy gold coins! What fun! Along with the shenanigans we learned about Ireland, danced an Irish jig and painted shamrocks with potatoes.

Cork, Ireland

I am so glad we got to visit Ireland a few years ago. You can read about it here.
