Our Lake Cottage
As many of you may know, our summer home by the Lake holds a special place in my heart; it is my childhood home. Each corner of this house is filled with memories, and I feel a deep connection. It’s just like the song that Miranda Lambert sings, “It’s the House that Built Me.”
Our home has cozy cottage feels, and it’s fitting because it has a wonderful history. Almost 70 years ago, my Dad built this place as a Summer Cottage for our family-way before I was even born!
Back in the day, many of the cottages around the lake were actually rentals for families from nearby cities who wanted a summer escape. My family rented one until Dad decided to build our own family spot. While some of the original cottages are still around, a lot have been remodeled or replaced by bigger homes. My parents expanded a few times, and then we added the lovely new sunroom to replace the one they had. This place is a little piece of paradise for us!
Our Sunroom
Please join me for tea and White Chocolate Raspberry scones in the sunroom. We will sit at the Live Edge coffee table that Sweet Man built for this space. Don’t you worry, the new central air is working beautifully.
Tea Time
Today, I chose this special tea, which I purchased at a local boutique called The Cottage Rose. This tea by Tea Forte is unique as each little pouch has a “single steep” or pre-portioned loose leaf tea.
I am happy to say we are using these beautiful Royal Staffordshire teacups my sister gave me. These teacups were the spark that I needed to start collecting red and white transferware.
The platter is a Florette from Alfred Meakin.
I am giggling as I am serving the scones with a tomato server. I am sure I am breaking all the etiquette rules, but I recently started collecting vintage tomato servers. I find them to be so pretty. I hope to show you more of my collection soon.
These White Chocolate Raspberry scones are delicious. I did take a shortcut. I used this mix that I found at Home Goods. I have used many different Sticky Fingers Bakeries mixes in the past and they never disappoint.
Fresh Cut Bouquet
I am pleased to share the beauty of our cottage garden blooms with you in this bouquet of lime-light hydrangeas and red curly leaf coleus. The ruby red hand-blown glass vase was a gift from my brother many Christmases ago. Like I said, this house is full of remembrances.

Good morning, Nancy. I love your childhood home and the memories it holds for you! Tea in the sunroom looks so inviting. All of the red accents are beautiful. My favorite tea is Earl Grey and how special to enjoy in your pretty Royal Staffordshire teacups. The corner cabinet is so lovely with your collections of red and white transferware and ruby red glass. The wicker settee dressed in red looks like the perfect spot to enjoy white chocolate raspberry scones and yes I will have jam with mine. I love a table with memories attached and thank you for sharing them.

Swooning over all of your beautiful serving pieces! What an incredible collection and I like how you USE them not just have them for display (though they definitely beautify the space just by being there :)). I will look for that scone mix at Home Goods. It looks really good and honestly, I’ve not had the best of results when I’ve made scones from scratch. You summer cottage looks amazing and I can see how that Miranda Lambert song reminds you of what your dad did!

How pretty Nancy! Your transferware and ruby glass collection is beautiful displayed on the shelves where you can enjoy it all the time. Your sunroom is the perfect spot to linger over a cup of tea with a white chocolate raspberry scone! I did not know that serving spatula was a tomato server, it would be wonderful for so many things~ so I think you should drop “tomato” and just go with server!

Nancy, I love your red transferware collection! The Florette platter is my favorite today. That, and the tomato server! I have a tomato server turned into a necklace by an artisan from several years ago, and bought one for one of my Panoply sisters too. 🙂 I’ll have to remember the Sticky Fingers brand and look for the raspberry white chocolate scone mix – those sound really good! Love all the memories you share of your cottage life, so sweet. It’s beautiful!

Hi Nancy, I love hearing about the history of your collections, how you started collecting as a child. How fun! I used to go antiquing with my mom and grandma a lot as a kid. It was always exciting to look for and find a new piece to sometime we were collecting. I collected Weller pottery for awhile since that’s my maiden name. To see how you use your collections to create such inviting and purposeful spaces is wonderful — these piece have so much history and continue to make more. Thanks for sharing! Very inspiring!

Those scones sound incredible! The sun room is just beautiful. The lake I live on was mostly summer cottages for the entirety of my childhood. Most of the houses have no insulation or even proper plumbing but throughout the past 20 or so years they have almost all been bought up and torn down or remodeled to make year round homes. I think I could count on one hand the # of original cottages left!
The scones are darn tasty!

That was just lovely. I wish I could see more of the table you Sweet Man made. Form what I could see, I love it. My husband inherited a red glass basket from his mother. It’s one of several pieces we have inherited that we would like to earn more about (age, value, are they worth passing on to our children?)

I have special pieces from my parents and who knows what they are worth but I treasure them like they were gold.
