Tuesday Tidbits #393 Autumn is Finding Its Way

Welcome Friends

Well, October has certainly decided to show up! The temperatures are finally settling into the low 60s, the sun is shining in a blue sky, and the fall colors are beginning to show themselves.

This is the outlet from our lake.

There’s my favorite tree again.

I’m not quite ready for the trees to give up all their green just yet, because that means we will need to rake, but I have to admit there is something pretty wonderful about this time of year.

GG Time

I enjoyed my grandson for two nights recently, and we had the best time together. We played, laughed, and made some sweet memories.

And the best part? I also got to spend some extra time with my son and daughter-in-luv. Those are the times I treasure.

Being a GG is pretty darn wonderful!

While we were out taking walks we saw beautiful homes in their neighborhood and Halloween decorations.

Speaking of Fall Decorations

I’ve been noticing fall popping up everywhere I go. I’ve taken photos of some of the pretty fall and Halloween decorating I’ve come across, and I thought I’d share a few with you.

Pumpkins, mums, wreaths, colorful leaves…you know the drill. Before we know it, we’ll be wondering where October went!

The colors are really starting to change now, and I’m loving every bit of it.

I really enjoy the decorated hay bales.

And how about this storefront?

Homecoming in Edinboro

This past weekend was Homecoming in our little town for my Alma Mater.

Friday evening brings all kinds of local festivities and special celebrations. Then Saturday brings the parade through town, and you can hear bagpipes playing everywhere.

And if you know Edinboro, you know why.

Edinboro was founded by the Scottish, so the town is filled with tartan plaid during Homecoming. Kilts, tartans and bagpipes…you really can’t miss the Scottish influence!

I make sure I wear my Tartan Plaid❣️

After the parade, it’s time for tailgating and football. It’s a weekend filled with old memories, new ones, familiar faces and a whole lot of school spirit.

The stands filled with fans once the game got underway.

A Sad Note From Our Blogging Community

And now for the part of this post that is much harder to write.

One of the gals I have shared Tea on Tuesdays with passed away on September 27. We remember Mary from Home is Where the Boat Is.

The blogging community is a special little corner of the internet. Over the years, we may never meet some of these people face-to-face, yet their words and photography become familiar. The behind the scenes friendships are real. We visit their homes through their photographs and stories. We celebrate their happy moments and sometimes share their difficult ones. And when one of those familiar names is suddenly gone, you feel the loss.

Mary was a gifted artist. Her photography of tablescapes, tea times, and her gardens and potting shed was phenomenal. She shared her beautiful Lake Norman with us and her adorable pups. We’ll truly miss her delicious recipes and the wonderful tutorials she shared with us.

Our blogging community is grieving, and my heart goes out to her family, friends and all of those who knew and loved her including her beautiful pups.

Mary had a gift for finding beauty in the little things. Through her photographs she shared all the beauty that surrounded her and reminded us to slow down and savor it all.

It’s a reminder for us lifestyle bloggers to keep writing, keep sharing the little things, and never take the connections we make here for granted. I miss Mary very much!

Thank You for Being Here.

I Appreciate Each of You.

  1. I’m sorry to hear about Mary’s passing. I think I’ve read posts of hers and I think she’s the one who has the exact same Christmas dishes that I do. The loss of connection is real even if you’ve never met IRL. I agree that it’s good to keep writing and sharing and not taking connections for granted. One thing I really like about blogging is learning about other areas of the country and about towns that I didn’t know existed such as your Edinboro. The Scottish influence is so neat- all that plaid and those bagpipes! Really cool!! Of course my town ends in “boro” so I like all of the “boro” references! I enjoyed your reflections and thoughts on fall/October. They resonated with me.

    1. Maria, you write so beautifully and your comments are always from the heart. Thank you for your virtual friendship. One day we may meet. And I love how we are both “Boro” girls!
      Enjoy the week to come.

  2. I so enjoy for history and photos of your town, Nancy! You look lovely in plaid! Isn’t it grand how we bloggers become “friends” without ever meeting. Mary will surely be missed.

  3. Nancy, I always enjoy seeing your beautiful home town. The fall colors are gorgeous and the homecoming looks so fun. I love the plaid! So sorry to hear of Mary’s passing.

  4. Hello Nancy! October is looking great in your beloved hometown! Since returning home, I am trying to finish my fall decorating. Great photo of you wearing your tartan plaid. I still find it hard to believe my dear friend Mary is gone. I will never post a Monday Morning Blooms, Tea On Tuesdays, or participate in a blog hop that I don’t think of Mary. She will always be in my heart❤️ Thank you for your heart-felt remembrance of our friend.

    1. She will forever be in our hearts. I miss her very much.
Thanks for the Tartan Plaid love. This town knows how to have fun.
      Happy Tuesday! ❤️

  5. Oh Nancy, your words are so true…Mary was so talented and special. Its wonderful that through these blogs we have made so many sweet friends. I’m not a blogger, but you ladies have provided so many days of information and joy…
Your Weekend looks like so much fun and even more happy memories! What a great hometown! God Bless.

    1. Thank you, Sweet Sue. I am missing Mary very much. She will always be in my heart.
Thank you for all the love for my hometown fun.
      Happy Tuesday, dear friend!

  6. What a beautifully written post, and such a reflection of bittersweet moments life brings us. Your time with your grandson, son and daughter-in-luv sounds absolutely precious – there is nothing quite like seeing a small town come alive with fall decorations! The Homecoming in Edinburgh must have been spectacular; the sight of the tartans and kilts always feels so deeply rooted in tradition. At the same time, my heart aches with the loss of our dear blog friend. Mary truly was an inspiration to all of us, and her presence will be missed so much.

    1. Yes her presence here in blogland and the internet will be deeply missed. She will always be in my heart.
      Thank you for the love.
      Happy Trails to you today.

  7. Nancy, your colors are turning and we know what that means…soon it will be time to head west. But you still have a lot of leaf-in to do. I used to love walking through the beautiful Fall leaves watching them flutter up and flutter down in the various colors of red, orange, brown, and gold. Sigh! The Midwest IS beautiful as is your East. I love your tartan outfit and handbag. So perfect for your ‘Boro’ days. Thanks for sharing the happenings in your fair city and on the lake.

We shall miss Mary, but we are left with memories of her kindness and generosity. I hope her blog stays up (which I would think David would do, he seems to know how much she meant to us all) so we can use her myriad of recipes, gardening tips, floral arranging and just re-read her words of past posts. She was so passionate about her posts and she will not be forgotten.

Have a great and wonderful October my friend. Hugs🏈🌻🍁🎃

    1. We all miss Mary very much. She remains in our hearts forever.
Thank you for enjoying my fall moments.
      Sending hugs your way. 🤗

  8. Your homecoming looks like a lot of fun with a lot of community spirit and involvement. I’m sorry to hear about Mary. Prayers for her family and friends.

  9. Your blog post is the first thing I am reading in the morning with warm tea in my hand. I enjoyed it so much, Nancy. The homecoming and tartan plaid tradition sound full of life and vibrant (You look beautiful and happy in your tartan plaid) Your writing makes me feel very happy for you on how you capture the life and beauty in little things around you. The memories you made with your family is the best. I miss my grandparents. And I can’t wait to become a grandparent someday.

Where I live, the trees are changing color too. That means, we’ve so much to clean and keep the garden tidy. However, there is something I love about the colors of the season. There’s a lake I visit often, which is a 45 minute drive from our place, where we picnic. There are these trees with beautiful deep-set leaves and purple berries that fill the air with a tarty-smell.. There must be a minimum of fifty trees on the walking path. and the whole path becomes deep purple in the season. A pleasant sight to watch. Your post reminds me of so much of our own memories.

I’ve not been out much lately, at least for walks. Your writing makes me want to. I am hoping to capture colors and life as beautiful as you do.

I am sorry to hear about your friend Mary. I will visit her blog today. I hope the blog remains on the internet. The blogging community is indeed a special corner and your tribute to her is a beautiful reminder not to take the connections for granted.

Wishing you a lovely week! ❤️

    1. Thank you, Lancy, for your visit. Your area sounds beautiful. And with purple colors! How wonderful.
Thank you, and enjoy the rest of your week.🍁

  10. The role of grandmother can’t be beat by any other. Enjoy every moment because they seem to grow up so fast.

Your weekend celebrations look like a lot of fun.

Sorry to hear of your loss. It is never easy, and our blogging friends are sincerely missed.

    1. Thank you, Judy. They do grow up fast! I can’t believe he is almost 2 1/2!
We do live in a wonderful town. Our celebrations are fabulous.
Thank you for your warm thoughts of Mary. I miss her very much. She lives in our hearts forever.
Take good care and enjoy your Autumn colors.

  11. What happiness to enjoy your grandson, son and daughter in law, Nancy. Those special times bring so many memories. Your homecoming pictures are wonderful and how cute you look in your tartan plaid.
Thank you for your lovely words are our beloved Mary. Oh how she’ll be missed by us. She enriched our lives so much, and we shall spread our own joys in our best ways.
Have a beautiful week, my friend. 🍁🧡🍂

  12. What a grand time. I love your visit to Edinboro for homecoming and it looks like the weather was perfect for your visit! I love seeing fall pop up, even though I wish summer was longer. (Or fall was longer; here in Michigan it’s a short season!). It’s looking good in your part of the world. I made it north and the colors are close to peak — perhaps before I leave! Enjoy this time.

  13. Oh my goodness…I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of a dear blogging friend. Separated by distance, perhaps, but it doesn’t lessen the intensity when we lose dear ones we’ve learned to love here on WordPress. It still hits hard.
Thank you, as always, for the uplifting news on Tuesdays, Nancy Lou…even when I’m reading on Wednesday! I love your opening photo of the fall colors and the lake. Wow. Gorgeous! And I look forward to your sweet Edinboro homecoming pics…and the photo of you is positively darling. Thanks for bringing us along and for sharing the love of you GG adventures.
    Love you much….you know that, don’tcha? 💝💝💝

    1. That I do know. And I love you right back!
Thank you always for visiting and spreading Vicki Lou Love!
Enjoy the rest of your week!
      ✨❤️✨

  14. Hi Nancy, writing from a bus as it takes us to Luxembourg! I’m sorry for your friends passing. I love our blog community and friendships we make IRL. Love your tartan plaid! I enjoy seeing your homecoming activities each year and them fall colors are wonderful. Bis spater!

  15. It sounds like homecoming weekend is a lot of fun for all the people in your town. Love the trees turning, everyone sporting plaid and all the festivities that go along with the event. It was sad to learn of Mary’s passing. Thoughts are with all that knew her.

    1. Hi Karen! It’s good to hear from you. Hope all is well.
Thank you for your kind comments; we’ll always keep Mary in our hearts.

  16. Lots of beautiful fall photos! I don’t even know when our local homecoming weekend is but I am sure I missed it… it doesn’t tend to be such a town wide thing though and is much more focused on the high school and football team at that.

Thank You So Much... for sharing your kind words. I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to share your thoughts.
