Hello Friends!
What a lovely fall week it has been! A little cooking, a little visiting, some music, and plenty of time enjoying these beautiful autumn days. Hope yours was just as wonderful.
Saturday
Saturday was a great day in the kitchen. Sweet Man brought home fresh, homegrown potatoes, so naturally, potato soup was on the menu. I also roasted the beets he brought home the day before, then whipped up a batch of pumpkin muffins. The kitchen smelled pretty darn good!
Afternoon By the Fire
After all that cooking, we enjoyed a fire outside. The weather was just perfect for sitting around the fire, listening to music, and enjoying a beautiful fall afternoon and evening. We listened to lots of Ella Langley, including her song Choosin’ Texas, which seems to be getting plenty of attention these days. I also listened to Taylor Swift’s new song Cleveland. I love it! Having lived in the Cleveland area for over 30 years, I can tell you it certainly caught my attention.
I also heard that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce purchased a gorgeous home on the lake in Cleveland. Now, wouldn’t that be something to see?
It’s always nice to sit by our potting bench while watching our fire.
Harvest Moon
That night we had the Harvest Moon. We have lots of tall trees around us, but we made sure to see it.
A Visit With My Sister
I had a fun visit with my sister and joined her friends for Bunco. It’s always nice to get together with the girls and share a few laughs.
A Visit to a Winery
After Bunco, I met up with Sweet Man and his good friend at Cask 307 Winery after the guys finished their golf game. What a beautiful winery, with wonderful wine and lovely grounds. It’s my favorite here in the Grand River Valley Region. (Our very own Napa.)
Back At Home
I gathered the last of the flowers from our gardens and made a small bouquet. It’s always a little bittersweet bringing in those final blooms of the season, but they sure do brighten up the house.

A Walk By the Lake
And, of course, there was a lovely walk by the lake. The leaves are just beginning to turn, although you’d hardly know it yet. Fall colors are taking their sweet time arriving here this year. We have lots of leaves down but they are still green with black spots. Is it because of too much rain? Or is it because of the very hot summer? We are not sure.
The other morning, I had to take a picture of my Favorite Tree.
I feel so lucky to call my hometown home, especially when living by this picturesque lake.
Another Monarch Update
Oh, I have to tell you—we had such a lovely surprise! Two monarchs appeared in our garden and stayed in one spot all day. After about 12 hours, they left. We are pretty sure they may have escaped from my netting as caterpillars. We think they transformed right here in our garden! I was so tickled!

So there you have it—a little bit of this and a little bit of that. A true hodgepodge of a week, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What a fun fall Hodgepodge! So much goodness in here… your baking and cooking sound delicious and perfect for the fall. It is kinda unbelievable that TS and TK bought a home in OHIO!! I like the Ella Langley song- I hear it a lot and never tire of it- so catchy! Your flowers are beautiful- bittersweet for sure but you’re enjoying their beauty and that’s the most important part :). It looks like I am the first on your blog…of course I know you view and approve so perhaps there are others before me in the queue! Your lake pics are lovely and how sweet of sweet man to bring you veggies….I love potato soup and make it a lot for lunch. It is one of those quick and easy dishes that warms the soul. Your sister’s zinnias are beautiful, they were my mom’s favorite flower. So nice you could sit by the fire and enjoy your beautiful decorating skills with your potting bench. And the moon! So pretty. I think grapes grow almost everywhere even Florida! We had vineyards in Missouri and Kansas too. Have a great week.🥰💕

Yum, you have me wanting to make potato soup. We will be harvesting our potatoes on Friday, so it will be on the menu very soon. 🙂

Ours colors are weirdly muted this year so far too but I am hopeful that it will get brighter. How lucky to have so many monarchs in the garden!

Oh, wow! Pumpkin and chocolate chips are hands down the ultimate flavor combination. There is truly nothing better that the smell of warm pumpkin spice and melted chocolate filling the kitchen. They look absolutely incredible – thank you for sharing! Happy Autumn!

Thankfully it’s cooling down a bit here, but not enough for a fire, even if outside. 🙂 I was able to wear long pants while sitting outside having coffee with a friend this morning, though, and it was delightful. Beautiful photos as always, especially of the flowers. I’m always happy to see a post from you and know you’re having fun in a beautiful part of the world. I also heard Travis and Taylor are buying a house in Cleveland, I think by the lake. But I don’t really follow them, although I’m glad they actually got married. Hope it lasts! 🙂
