Tuesday Tidbits #43 Buon Giorno Bologna, Italy

I am so pleased to have you back again to see where we are headed next on our European excursion. Thanks so much! We are off to catch a train!

We had to catch an afternoon Euro Train from Munich to Bologna.

While waiting for the train we saw this gal having a photo shoot. Probably for Instagram. I saw so many women staging their own selfies and portraits on this trip…

The train ride through The Alps and into Italy was beautiful!

Since we left in the afternoon we got to Bologna late. Therefore it was nice to see that our Hotel was lovely and welcoming because we were ready for sleeping!

The next morning we were thrilled that coffee and breakfast was right across from our room. What a wonderful way to start the day!

We had a lovely breakfast on the hotel balcony of croissants, meats and cheeses, fruits and other breakfast goodies.

After breakfast we headed out the door and down to the Piazza Maggiore in Bologna.

The Piazza’s of the Italian cities we visited are the centers of city commerce etc. Many people gather here.

A sculpture of Neptune was in the center of the Piazza.

Bikes are another form of transportation here…

But you can’t experience Bologna without visiting the Quadrilatero, the oldest mercato or market in Bologna. It’s a foodies’ dream come true!

There are streets upon streets of wonderful places to shop and eat! Lots of samples were tasted but now it was time for an…

Apertivo…

An apertivo is an Italian experience… a social ritual… a time to stop and take in the moment. The iconic drink of Italy, especially here in Bologna, was called a Spritz. It was a cool and refreshing delight! It was made with Prosecco, Campari and soda. A true Apertivo is served with a small snack.

After lingering enough… we went exploring again.

Since we had so many food samples and a wonderful Apertivo… it was time to go back to our hotel. We purchased a bottle of wine and some cheeses and bread. It was time to relax in the coolness of our hotel air conditioning.

Our walk back was covered… sheltered from the sun.

How wonderful you got to enjoy Bologna with us. Thanks so much for reading! We will be headed to Tuscany with the next post!

Until then… I want to leave you with the sounds of Bologna.

Until Next Time ~Nancy

  1. Nancy, what a fun excursion to an Italian city that I have not visited. Bologna is definitely a feast for the senses. You and I think alike, let’s find the fabulous food markets. I love food and the Italians do it best. The street life provides plenty of opportunity to people watch and the older gentleman was having a good time singing. I can’t wait for Tuscany! Thanks for taking me along my friend!

    1. Bologna was a treat! It had that old city flair and was filled with great historical culture. But the market was amazing! We really enjoyed the sights, sounds and smells.

Tuscany will not disappoint… stay tuned sweet friend! 🤗

    1. I will say… we ate our way across Europe! But we also walked our way across Europe as well. So it was a win, win!

Thank you for coming along with us! We love adventures!

      1. Well, we ate our way across Alaska, too, but unfortunately – due to Mary’s bum leg – we could not walk our way across Alaska. 😉

  2. That’s a lot of Bologna you captured there. I like all the colors in Italian cities. Looks like you had a marvelous time. Wonderful photos and video snipets.

  3. How fun! Takes me back to my recent first visit to Italy! I visited 3 different cities and several villages, but did not get to Bologna.

    1. Bologna was a foodies dream! Plus all that old world flair. It was a delightful stop over for our next leg of our trip to Fiesole, Tuscany.

Thank you for taking the time to stop over for a visit. I am enjoying your Blog Hop of Fall Tablescapes that you orchestrated. Well done my friend!

  4. Nancy, what a wonderful trip to Bologna! I haven’t been there for a long time, it is such a treat for the senses. I love the markets, and the food is no where better than in Italy. Thanks for taking us along, it’s been so much fun! Xo Lidy

  5. Loved traveling along with you and the videos made it all the more real. We love Italy. The food, the markets, the people, the stunning scenery. Hard to resist.

  6. Nancy, I enjoyed your Bologna post. We were there for two days in August 2021. We stayed near the square you pictured and had great meals there. The covered walkways were a marvel. Wish we had taken the train like you did from Tuscany. We did rent a car and drove to Lake Como. They drive very fast and there were so many tunnels.
