Washington Island

Our friends greeted us as our Ferry came into dock at Washington Island.

Places like this were tucked into the coastline of Washington Island.
Two old friends taking in calm Lake Michigan.

We arrived at the cabin that our friend built on Washington Island.

Their deck overlooks Lake Michigan!
Right out their back door you can take the stairs down to the beach…
This beautiful scene awaits you on their beach!

Don’t you worry… he doesn’t bite!

We had a beautiful Sunrise coffee on the deck …

Morning Sunrise from their deck…

Then we were off to tour the island.

First stop the Lavender Farm!

Lavender was not in bloom when we arrived but it was drying inside the building.

This is a reproduction of a Scandinavian church (Stavkirke)  found here on the island…
Inside you will find Lavender drying…

There is a gift shop filled with beautiful Lavender! It is a must see!

A drive around the island a few creatures may get your attention…

After spotting the deer I found this quaint little cottage…

How cute is this?!?!

A Maritime Museum awaits us at Jackson Harbor of Washington Island. An older gentlemen answered all of our questions. There were old fishing boats to see, along with an ice house and an old Model A Ford with skis to get around.

A walk across this bridge takes you to the ice house…

Ice use to be stored in here…

Off to have a beer at the local pub… with this guy…

This chicken was in the back yard of the local pub!

…and so was this goat!

Remember the Lavender Farm and the building that was a reproduction of a church…

Well… here is the actual church…

Stave Church was built to honor Scandinavian Heritage… This church called Stavkirke… was built to replicate the churches from the middle ages.

Inside the church… amazing!!

A trip around Washington Island is not complete until you climb the stairway to heaven… that’s what I called it!

The view was incredible at the top!

Washington Island…

But what goes up must come down…

We loved the whole Island…

A stop at the grocery store you will find beautiful gardens…

…a few fireside cocktails were had inside their place!
…and coffee along with a sunrise…
…doesn’t get much better then that…

      Thank you for stopping by.
