Tuesday Tidbits #294 Life is Short

I came across this quote a few weeks ago.

“The bad news is time flies. The good news is YOU are the pilot.” ~Michael Altshuler

I am the pilot and have tried to slow the time plane down, but it still flies by so quickly!

Hi Friends

Welcome to another week of Tuesday Tidbits. It was a joyful week full of family love and the splendor of autumn. We had our Family Thanksgiving here at the LakeHouse this past weekend. We had so much fun! 13 of us, plus our new grandson enjoyed each other’s company. My heart is full.

I made delicious pies—a blueberry pie and a pumpkin pie. My sister brought nut rolls and pumpkin rolls. I broke from tradition and made turkey rolls instead of roasting a turkey. Have you ever had them? They are stuffing that is rolled in very good deli turkey slices and smothered in delicious gravy then baked at 370 until warm and bubbly. It’s easy and delectable! Here is where I shared the Turkey Rolls before. I hope you give them a try.

Gathering everyone at the old Homestead was truly heartwarming. I could sense my parents looking down on us, filled with happiness as we gathered in our childhood home.

This room was filled with people.

The family gathered around the table.

This table was the buffet and filled with food.

Life becomes even more beautiful when loved ones come together. We are truly grateful for our family time.

Fall Squash

We just bought the Delicata Squash and the Buttercup Squash. We love both of them. I hope to make the Delicata tonight for dinner. Here is how I prepare it.

1. I cut the Delicata Squash in half and cleaned the seeds out. 2. I sliced it in half inch slices and drizzled it with olive oil and sprinkled with some salt. 3. Roast in a 425 degree oven for 20 minutes. The skin is edible and it adds a fabulous crispy addition to the creamy squash.

Buttercup squash can be made just like acorn squash. It has a sweet, creamy flavor. I’ll make that soon and share it with you next week.

Second Monarch Sighting

When I see a beautiful Monarch, I am reminded of the preciousness of life. Life is short, so let’s cherish each other and every day that we are given.

While viewing the Monarch a Bumble Bee arrived to collect nectar and pollen.

Beautiful nature sightings right here in our backyard! 🩷

Homecoming

This weekend, let the spirit of Homecoming fill the air as the Tartan Plaid is proudly displayed and the sound of Bagpipes echoes throughout the town! Happy Homecoming!

Prayers Needed

Let’s keep everyone affected by Hurricane Helene in our thoughts and prayers. And let’s also remember to include Florida in our prayers as Hurricane Milton is expected to impact the state. A scary time for so many people.

Thank You

As I always try to convey… we sure do appreciate all of you. Thank you for joining us for another Tuesday Tidbits.

We are wishing all of you a wonderful week ahead. Enjoy what this upcoming week brings to you. And whatever you have planned… make every day count and be thankful for your Blessings.

  7. The Monarchs are so beautiful but that Bumble Bees looks like it’s on steroids 🤣 🐝 I remember those Turkey Rolls (easy is the best and, most often, the yummiest) and I’m sure they went down a treat as did those pies. Have a great week, Miss Nancy.

  12. Fabulous post, Nancy! Your Thanksgiving table and decor look warm and inviting. Both your squash and turkey rolls look appealing. I love that your town is enjoying the homecoming spirit! Our high school in San Diego was also Scottish themed–our band and bagpipes were award winning in their day!

Autumn is looking great where you are, my friend. Take good care!

    1. There’s nothing like the sound of bagpipes. I am so glad you got to enjoy them at your school.
Thank you so much for enjoying the love I shared today.
      Enjoy your Tuesday!
      🧡🍂🍁🧡

  13. Hi Nancy! Love your beautiful photos of the Monarchs. What a fun time of year to have a family Thanksgiving before things get so hectic and you can truly enjoy family time without the hustle and bustle of the upcoming Christmas season. 🦃 I’m all about the sides at Thanksgiving and think turkey’s overrated, so a turkey roll filled with stuffing and covered in gravy is perfect for me. 😊 Our thoughts and prayers are with those in Milton’s path. Our beloved NC mountains will be in recovery mode from Helene, digging out and trying to restore services and water for many months to come. We’re so grateful for Samaritan’s Purse that will be helping with aid and the recovery in Florida after Milton. Happy October ♥

    1. Thank-you Mary for enjoying all the love I shared today.
The turkey rolls are incredible! They are surely a crowd pleaser and easy to prepare.
I am glad you are safe from Helene.
And I agree NC is going to be recovering for a long time. And Florida needs our prayers with Milton. Prayers for all.🙏
