Tuesday Tidbits #298 Delightful Distractions

Hello Friends

Every time I step outside, I hear the sound of leaves rustling! It’s funny—I sometimes find myself turning around, thinking someone is walking behind me when, in all reality, it’s the leaves following me. Most trees have already shed their leaves, except for a few that still have their vibrant colors.

Finding Comfort

Once again, I look to nature to calm my thoughts and find it to be a quiet place. Today is Election Day in the USA. Many of us who live here have anticipated this day, along with all the anxiety. So, getting outside in nature, visiting with friends and family, or simply going shopping has helped to alleviate the tension. These delightful distractions have made the last several weeks a bit more bearable.  Ultimately, it’s all about discovering those little things, or as I like to call them, delightful distractions that bring me a sense of comfort! Here is what we have done.

Comfort in Nature

Appreciating nature’s beauty in its simplest forms.

Even though the leaves have fallen, the lake still shines with beauty, especially when the Tundra Swans stop by for a little break during their migration!

These clouds made us smile.

Do you see the heart?

We were amazed that a king crab was crawling over the trees. Please use your imagination. 🙂(Lower left.)

Browsing or Shopping Gives Us Comfort

We went to a Christmas Open House at an exquisite local boutique called The Cottage Rose. (This shop can be found on Instagram and Facebook and is called The Cottage Rose of Edinboro.) Gina, the owner, and her elves decorate so beautifully. I believe you will agree with me.

Comfort Within Our Home and Cooking

This time of year, I tend to cook more soups and stews. Soup always brings me comfort. I think I got it from My Mom, who loved making soup.

My chicken soup.

My Vegetable Beef Barley Soup

Even when we visit our favorite restaurant, I always look forward to their delicious soups.

A hearty Southwest BBQ Soup

Making our home comfortable and inviting is important to me. Lately, I’ve really been in the mood to nest so that our cottage is a place to come and calm our minds and rest.

The warmth of the fire and the twinkling lights create such a cozy atmosphere!

The addition of a few cheerful Holiday baubles to a dish was enough for me, and it made me smile.

I hope all of you in the US are finding ways to distract yourself from the craziness. Together, we send prayers and hope for our nation. Please Vote.

Thank You

As I always try to convey… we sure do appreciate all of you. Thank you for joining us for another Tuesday Tidbits.

We are wishing all of you a peaceful week ahead. I also am asking for no political comments here. Thank you.

  1. I love how you are decorating your cottage. Do you think you might come north from AZ for part of the holidays? Back when our cottage was year-round, we’d decorate with a tree and all at Thanksgiving, then turn down the heat and come back Christmas day after celebrating with grandparents. These days, it would be an artificial tree! It looks charming, as does the open house. I hear you on the leaves and thinking someone is behind you — same here. And those swans! So much to love here. Stay mellow!

  2. Thank you for all the delightful distractions Nancy, you definitely know how to find comfort! Friends, family, nature, shopping, comfort food and cloud dreaming! I like your holiday decorations too! Blessings~

  3. I indeed am a huge fan of the comfort I get from soups and stews, Nance. May our country survive the result of this Election Day was as few hard feelings as possible.

  4. It does help to be out in nature, helps with the perspective. I’m baking bread today, putting on some beautiful music, and hoping that the good people of this country vote for common sense and optimism rather than fear and revenge. Is this still my country?

  5. I love everything about this post, Nancy, especially as we deal with the stress of the election and the time change from DST. Walking among the fall leaves is always a balm for the soul– your pics are gorgeous!

Last week I went with my SIL to a Christmas store and bought a few baubles to take to Arizona. My Christmas decor is taking a back seat this year since we’re scooting out of here a few days before Christmas. We’ll be in AZ almost 7 weeks this winter, to spend time with family and friends. I imagine it won’t be long until you head south, my friend!

  6. Hello Nancy! I love your beautiful images and musings. We went early to vote and we pray for our country.

Your cottage looks warm, cozy, and inviting. Soups cooking on the stove at always comforting. Wishing you a most blessed season of Thanksgiving!

  7. Nancy, you really had some delightful distractions this week. The shop’s decorations are beautiful and are sure to put their customers in the holiday mood. I make a lot of soups this time of year, too. Your soups look delicious.

  8. Even though I don’t feel great because of the prep work this morning for a crown (not the queen kind 😂 ), I felt the need to get outside even if it was just for a mile with one of my dogs. I am so glad I did. You are right about the need for distractions this week, and nature provides some of the best distractions around. Your foray into The Cottage Rose looks like so much fun, and I enjoyed visiting it virtually. Thank you for an uplifting post.

  9. I am mesmerized by that carpet of different colors leaves- so beautiful . Thanks for sharing all the wonderful photos. Glad you found so many ways to distract yourself. I like making soup, shopping, and watching a good movie or tv series.

  10. Nancy! I always love your beautiful images and your musings. The Captain and I sent in our ballots and verified that they were received and we prayed for our country, almost continuously and looking at the results today we are vey pleased..

Your cottage is always enchanting. Ive been making pozole and taco soups…love the warmth of New Mexico cooking. Wishing you a most blessed season of Thanksgiving…happy November!🦃🦃🍁

  11. Hey Miss Nancy – I did see the king crab crawling over the trees – AND the dolphins in the waves just above (and slightly right). All those sound look fabulous, but it’s salads, salads and more salads around here at the moment. It’s too hot for much else. I could spend hours at The Cottage Rose and fell I now need to go find a shop here that will inject my soul with Christmas Spirit. Love and blessings your way as usual 🥰
