Tuesday Tidbits #361 Brrrr! Pennsylvania is Cold!

Welcome to Snowy Pennsylvania!

Where the sunlight feels fantastic while having my coffee in the sunroom at the Lake House. Yes, we are in Pennsylvania! Why, you ask? Why would we leave warm Arizona for the cold North? So that we could see our wonderful family and friends, of course. We have had lots of fun with them.

When we flew into Buffalo we saw this very large pile of snow at the airport. Notice the sign in the lower right. That shows how big this pile is.

It was -7° when we arrived at our Pennsylvania home. We have over a foot of snow. When we saw all the footsteps in our yard and the neighbor’s yard, we had to laugh. You would think we have dogs, but we don’t. What you see is the nighttime party crew of deer, rabbits, raccoons, and whatever else comes out of the forest at night, leaving their tracks!

We also have enjoyed seeing the art on our windows.

The frost on the windows is quite pretty to look at. Jack Frost is such an artist.

The snow is pretty but it sure is brutally cold.

Our favorite lake is frozen. Ice fishermen are enjoying!

But not cold enough for the Pileated Woodpecker to come out and look for food in our back yard!

Thank you to my neighbor for taking this picture. She took it through her kitchen window screen.

Here he/she is this past summer looking for food at our feeder.

Looks just like Woody the Woodpecker!

What To Do When Snowed In?

First off, be thankful for heat and electricity. We are enjoying our brand-new furnace, which we replaced this past summer. I don’t know how our friends in the south are living without electricity. Last I heard, many are still without power after last week’s ice storm. Our prayers are with them!

We are thankful for our fireplace that my Dad constructed 70+ years ago. Sweet Man replaced the liner inside a few years back to make it safe to burn fires.

We light candles, get out the quilts and enjoy homemade specialty coffees at home. I got a pretty frother that matches the copper in our kitchen. 🤣😂 I love it!

The quilt matches the coffee mug. Our hot steaming Cinnamon Dolce Lattes with Cold Foam warm us, and they are so tasty!

I’ve been cleaning, and it truly feels wonderful to give everything a refreshed look. I also decided to update the kitchen decor with cheerful spring colors. It’s such a joy to brighten up the indoors, especially when the outside is all dull and gray.

Daffodils will be blooming in no time! But here in the kitchen, they already are! 🌼💛

New little friends have joined the kitchen shelves. Little Hummels! One is Sweet Man because he loves rabbits. The other is for me because I love flowers!

When the Weather Allows

When the weather broke I got out with friends to play fundraiser Bingo! I won an InstantPot! We had so much fun!

Besties having fun at Bingo!

When I got home from Bingo I enjoyed watching the full Snow moon.

The moonlit sky lit up all the animal tracks! I am still laughing at how busy our yards are at night!

Thank You!

Thank you, friends, for coming along to the very cold state of Pennsylvania. Good company makes even the coldest places feel warm.

I hope to catch up with all of you very soon. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind.

We wish you all a wonderful week ahead. Enjoy what this upcoming week brings to you. And whatever you have planned, make every day count and be thankful for your Blessings.

Stay safe, stay warm and pray for peace.

    1. Yes, we are definitely experiencing winter! It is snowing as I type. It was so fun to see our grandson, our kids, and our close friends!
      Thanks for stopping by, Maria!

  1. Oh my, you ALMOST make me think that snow and cold is worth it, your photos are so beautiful. I always wonder what my friends who go south (or west) do to ensure their homes are taken care of in winter when it ices. I imagine you have someone to check on it? Love the spring changes! And girl, you had to be extra careful not to fall on that new hip! My sister did fall on her new knee (8 mos new). Just praying she didnt damage it, but she was all black and blue and sore.
    Take care, beautiful!

    1. Oh, Rita, thank you for your sweet comments.
We have lots of checks and balances in place for both our homes.
I have been nervous on the snow! Walking sticks help tremendously! I sure hope your sister is okay!
Thank you for all the love.
      Enjoy your Tuesday!

  2. So beautiful and cozy Nancy! ❄️I’m always amazed at how big those Pileated Woodpeckers are when I spy one. We’ve been housebound for 3 days after our snow, the freeze/thaw cycle and black ice makes it treacherous to navigate. I almost fell Sunday while out with the dogs and pulled my hamstring to stop my fall. I think I would have been better off just falling! Take care with your new hip. ❤️

    1. Oh my goodness, Mary!! I am so sorry to hear that.
I am being very careful. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t worried about falling.
Thanks for all the love and I pray you heal quickly. 🙏

  3. I love being with my friends and family too, but I like it a lot more when it isn’t sub-zero outside! Or even teens. And definitely snow! But then, that’s Michigan so we adapt (and wish we had friends in warmer climes!)

The house looks great and those daffodils are so cheery. When you showed your cute Hummels, something clicked inside me — why don’t I take some of the things I love from here to the cottage? Not that I don’t like the things there, because I do. But maybe it is time for a refresh and as I continue to downsize with plans to move smaller in a few years, and having a terrible time deciding what to part from, you may have provided an answer for me!

  4. Nancy I agree with you as you wonder at what critters pass through your yard at night. Years ago, I would drink my coffee in the early morning and watch as 6 to 8 deer walk the same path across the back of my yard followed by about 10 to 12 wild turkeys. The days I was fortunate enough to see them all return going on the same path but the opposite direction, Was always a good thing. stay warm, my friend, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride I fear.

  5. How lovely! I love your yellow decor items .. such sunshine in the cold of winter. Congrats on winning the instapot! Stay warm and have fun.

  6. Hi Nancy, your images are so beautiful! We have warmed up down here, and I am enjoying it. It is amazing the animals that visit at night, with snow they leave the evidence. That snow pile at the airport is huge. I love a fireplace, it is so cozy. Your Cinnamon Dolce Latte looks delicious. Your kitchen looks like spring is on its way. Our daffodils are up. The sweet Hummels steal my heart. I love my collection that I have had for 40 plus years. Be careful with your new hip, please don’t fall! Enjoy your time in PA, dear friend!

    1. As soon as I unpacked the Hummels, I thought of you!
Thanks so much for your sweet comments.
I am being very careful not to fall.
Glad it’s warming up for you. Spring is on its way!
Enjoy the rest of your week, dear Pam.

  7. Hi Nancy!
Your winter photos are so gorgeous!! We aren’t having our usual amount of snow at all here, but the beautiful blue sky and sunny days have been a treat. Enjoyed seeing your dear Hummels with the perfect plate and hearing the sweet story of your and hubbies favorite things. Your yellows and daffodils are so happy, and the matching mug to your quilt reminds me of all our Scandinavian winter joys.
So nice to hear you are carefully out and about and winning pots at Bingo… another fun picture!

Always so delightful reading your news and seeing your photos…

    Take good care❣️

    1. Thank you so much, Sue! You are always so kind.
I hope your winter has been warm. It’s still very cold here. Brrr!
      Thanks for all the love!
      Take good care, Sue.

  8. I’m thankful you had a safe trip despite the snowy winter conditions, Nancy! I love all the wintery pics, but warm interiors with your decor are lovely to see. Nice capture of the woodpecker! Safe travels home!

    1. Thanks, Terri! It’s been fun to see the snow. It’s the dang COLD that’s tough!
I am glad you saw the Woodpecker. I have not seen any Robins here. They usually show up in February, but I believe it is still too early and too COLD!
Enjoy the rest of your week, dear friend.

  9. You probably couldn’t have found a colder time to go to PA, but then so many of us across the U.S. are subject to these extreme temperatures. Your pictures are beautiful, and I’m glad you found fun things to do and friends to do them with.

    1. We sure did! Brrrr!
My sister lives in South Florida on the Gulf. She has had ice on her windows. And a low of 29°!
It’s been nice to see the snow, but I am not fond of the COLD! 🥶
Thanks so much for the visit. Enjoy the rest of your week.

  10. Oh my goodness…you took the question right out of my mouth! Yes…why ARE you in Pennsylvania??? But I hear you — to see dear ones. Good reason! And I loved your snow moon pics…I took two the other day that I most post on Sunday…I think we were looking at the same scene with those tree limbs framing the photo. Take care…stay warm, Nancy Lou! 💝💝💝

    1. Thank you, Vicki Lou!
Staying warm is at the top of my to-do list!
And moon gazing is such a wonderful thing to do!
Enjoy the rest of your week, Vicki Lou! 🥰

  11. Beautiful photos as usual, Nancy. I wish I could be there enjoying the cold as well as that wonderful fire place. It’s unseasonably warm here, unfortunately, which makes me sound crazy, but we get so little cool-cold weather that I want to enjoy every bit of it. Glad you’re having fun with family. That makes the cold worthwhile. ❤️

  12. Welcome back East, Nancy! Y’all got more snow and colder temperatures than we here in the Northern Shenandoah Valley. Isn’t it funny to see all the tracks? We have much to be grateful for with our warm fireplaces and lights (we did not loose them either). You are so close to me in PA!🙂

    1. Howdy neighbor!
We have lots of snow. It does not seem to be melting.
Thank God for heat and electricity! Prayers for those who do not have. 🙏
      Stay warm, neighbor!

  13. I was so surprised to read that you were back in Pennsylvania, Nancy! I’m loving your cheery kitchen decor and your lovely latte. I have one of those frothers for my tea lattes and I love it. Your woody woodpecker is so pretty. I have one in my yard, but not nearly as pretty as yours. Enjoy your frosty time and stay cozy by your fire.

    1. Thank you Kitty! We picked the coldest week in winter to come back for a few weeks!
Thanks for all the love. I always enjoy your sweet comments! Enjoy your weekend!
      Happy February!

  14. I would have a camera with night vision out there, what fun watching the night time animals. You know we think you are nuts going to PA in this cold time? But on a good note, how beautiful is the snow and ice, I actually love winter.

    1. Yes, we might be nuts. But seeing friends and family is worth every snowflake! Lol!
Thank you for stopping by. Stay warm my friend.

  15. Nancy, those photos make me feel cold. Lots of snow. I love seeing the different critters passing through. Your fireplace and living room looks so warm and cozy. Thanks so much for sharing. Iam happy to feature your lovely post at Love Your Creativity. Take care.

  16. Eeeks! I commented earlier but there was an error and it didn’t go through :(. This comment will be shorter as I don’t think that I’ll remember what I all wrote! The photos are all so good- I love the vignettes and the cozy vibes of your beautiful lake house. The pictures of coffee mugs, blazing fire, and cheery yellow in your kitchen are just lovely- thank you for sharing them and your nature photos. Bingo sounds like a blast- well, winning sounds like a blast and spending time with friends :). Oh, and I want to devote about a day to read all your blog posts that I see on the right hand side of your blog- your travel posts and she shed decor. Love it!

    1. Oh how sweet of you to comment again! Thank you!
And enjoy reading all my sidebar posts! There are lots of favorites.
Happy February my friend! Hope it’s warming up for you!

  17. I love the kitchen photo. Daffodils and daisies are our wedding flowers, I always smile when people share how they like daffodils.
I love the photo of you and your pals, those smiles say it all, true friends.
    Enjoy your Valentine’s week!
    Carla

    1. Thankyou Carla! How wonderful to have daffodils and daisies for your wedding bouquet! I love them because they are bright and cheery!
Thanks for all the love! Happy Valentine’s Day!

  18. Came here from Vicki’s post – and glad I did – so much good stuff in this post and my fav? might be this: Daffodils will be blooming in no time! But here in the kitchen, they already are! 🌼💛

Thank You So Much... for sharing your kind words. I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to share your thoughts.
