Happy September!
Hello Friends! I am amazed that it is September! Wow! Time really flies! I savored every part of summer as I could. I didn’t check off all my summer bucket list items, but I added some, so that counts! I know, I know it’s not fall yet, but it feels like it here in NW Pennsylvania. And for some, fall starts today because Sept. 1 is the first day of Meteorological Fall.
Reds, oranges, and yellows are beginning to appear everywhere.
Little Wonders
The Skies
This week was one of those weeks that was filled with little wonders.
It started with nature putting on a show right outside our kitchen window. I caught a beautiful sunrise, and later in the week, the moon gave us a pretty spectacular lunar eclipse. We never seem to tire of looking up at the sky—it always gives us something to photograph.

A Country Ride
We took a ride through the country, enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way. And, of course, every good country drive needs a destination. Ours happened to be a delicious hot fudge sundae. Now that’s what I call a successful outing! We always make an annual visit to the Strawberry Delight near Frysburg, Pa. Plus there is a fantastic antique store right up the road.
Have you ever seen a field of Buckwheat? This was new to us.
A Short Visit to Our Friend’s Place
We also spent some time at a friend’s house, where the patio and backyard were absolutely gorgeous. We enjoyed the setting, the company, and even had a couple of unexpected visitors. Two skunks wandered onto the back patio! That’s a first for me. I’m pretty sure they weren’t on the guest list. 😂 🦨
Their markings are so different. We were protected behind glass doors.
Sunset
That same evening found us watching the sunset over a newly planted vineyard. In a year or two this is going to be a resort destination in Ohio.
Fall Decor
And now, believe it or not, fall is beginning to make its way into the house and the patio. I’m pulling out the fall decor and adding those little touches that make our home feel cozy.
My Phone
Oh, and then there was the phone.
I never lose my phone. Ever.
But apparently, there is a first time for everything. After we got back to our friend’s place from our sunset outing, I realized my phone was missing. And somehow, at 10:30 that night, we found ourselves heading back to the sunset spot to retrieve it.
Thankfully, I knew exactly where I had laid it down—and there it was!
Glad For Little Wonders
This was a week full of little wonders.
And I’m pretty sure I’ll remember all of them. (I definitely can because I document them all here on the blog.)
Looking back, I think these are the weeks I treasure most. The ones filled with simple pleasures, beautiful bits of nature, and little surprises tucked into ordinary days. Do you ever notice how I always enjoy the simple pleasures?

What a delightful read! Your writing is as enjoyable as your photos!! I love all the pictures of the plants on your property. I’ve not seen many of them before. And I’ve never seen a buckwheat field. Your potting bench is outside but it must be under cover, correct? I have been eyeing one but I’m not sure where to put it. Yours is delightful! How wonderful to find your phone- the picture of you walking to get yours is great. And those skunks! Oh my! I have inadvertently come close to a skunk a time or two while walking/running. I have to try to not freak out when I see one ten feet from me!
Thank Goodness the skunks did not spray! They were just being inquisitive. But still… too close for comfort.

You two certainly know how to keep life interesting! Your adventures come in two categories: the “Oh, how wonderful!” kind — Sundae, new discoveries, visits with friends, and all those moments that make great memories — and the “Holy crap, what just happened?” kind — skunks, temporarily misplaced phones, and the occasional adventure that comes with its own built-in heart-rate monitor! 😂
But really, isn’t that what makes life fun? The good stuff gives you stories to tell, and the not-so-good stuff gives you stories that get funnier every time you tell them!
Here’s to September bringing you plenty more adventures, lots of laughs, wonderful memories… and perhaps fewer encounters with skunks and lost technology! 😂❤️

Lost technology isn’t fun until you find it and have a great story to go with it. We called ourselves the “Midnight Riders” when we were driving home from that place and laughing all the way.
As for the skunks… oh my! I am so glad they did not spray.

As always, your Tuesday Tidbits are delightful in every way! I am constantly misplacing my phone and sometimes I can’t remember where it is even in the house. What a fabulous week you had my friend! I love seeing all the glimpses of fall in and around your childhood home. The skies have been showing off! Yes to a hot fudge sundae! I have never seen buckwheat, thanks for sharing it. We have seen skunks with weird markings. A couple of years ago we saw a solid white with a black streak on its back. It was actually pretty as far as a skunk could be. I love the warmth of the pine paneling and all of your touches of fall. Happy September 🍂🧡🍂

I had to chuckle about the skunks. On our walk along the Red Cedar River we have a skunk that likes to scurry by us every now and then. Oh golly I say.

Those are some beautiful skies– I missed the eclipse. Pretty sure that was the night I fell asleep really, really early (like 7!). I haven’t been sleeping great and sure needed the sleep. You have lots of lovely fall touches all around the house.

I enjoy seeing the fall colors in September. I usually start decorating when the birdsong stops in the morning and gives way to crickets chirping, and when the evenings come earlier.

You had yourself a good week with an even better ‘find.’ The only thing that could have been omitted were the skunks. I’ve never seen them come that close up to people. Thank goodness you were inside.
That was after we found my phone. When we came in, our friends saw them, and we snapped pictures before our friends scared them away.

The goldenrod-to-first-frost countdown is new to me and now I want to test it. Four to six weeks would put you right at mid-October in NW Pennsylvania, which sounds about right. I loved the bit about your mom calling the evening primrose buttercups – every family seems to have its own plant names that outlast the correct ones. And adding things to the summer list instead of finishing it absolutely counts.
