Tuesday Tidbits #296 It’s Leaf Peeping Time

It’s Prime Time

It’s the perfect time for leaf-peeping, moon-gazing and sky gazing. I’m grateful for this season, as it has offered me a much-needed escape to clear my mind with the USA election approaching. Embracing God’s beauty uplifts the spirit.

This week, getting outside to see the Hunter’s Moon in the morning or evening was incredible. It was this year’s brightest supermoon.

The Hunter’s Moon.

With these two photos, (above and below) taken from almost the same spot at the lake, I captured the beautiful contrast of night and day!

We were fortunate enough to witness the Northern Lights dance over the lake one evening. Astounding!

They were spectacular!

Speaking of spectacular. The leaves have been truly spectacular this year!

The lake is a breathtaking reminder of nature’s beauty!

Thank goodness the trees are sharing their beautiful colors. The last harsh frost hit our flower gardens, so I spent the day deadheading and cleaning up the beds. It’s always a chore, and it’s somewhat sad as it’s Summer’s goodbye for me, but it needs to be done.

Resilience

I am always surprised at what flowers still bloom after the cold temperatures arrive and a few hard frosts occur.

Roses can bloom well into late November. This rose always reminds me of my Mom as she planted it 60+ years ago.

Marigolds can last a long time in the cold weather.

And of course Mums.

Comfort

Many of us find comfort in the outdoors, but food can also be comforting at this time of year.

I made two pies in the last two weeks. One was a Grape Pie for sweet man. The other was a Pecan Pie for a friend’s birthday.

Grape Pie in my Mom’s pie plate.

Delicious!

Grape Pies are popular here in the The Lake Erie Viticultural Area of North East Ohio, Northwest Pennsylvania and New York because the Concord grape variety is grown here. (Welch’s grape juice is made from these grapes and the popular juice comes from this area.) I got the recipe on Pinterest from a woman who lives in New York. I make it once a year during the grape harvest.

Here is the Pecan Pie I made along with my sister’s homemade card that I am displaying on the kitchen table.

A delicious Pot Roast was made. This is pure comfort!

We had Pork Chops this week as well.

Do you remember when I mentioned I was going to make the ButterCup Squash and share how I made it. I made it but did not take pictures.

ButterCup squash displayed on our Dining Room table.

I cut the ButterCup squash in half and removed the seeds. I placed the squash on a sheet pan with a pat of butter and cinnamon, then wrapped it in aluminum foil and baked it for 50 minutes at 375. It depends on the size of your ButterCup squash and how long you keep it in the oven. I tested it with a fork, and it was done. I mashed the baked squash and served it with the Pork Chops. You could add maple syrup if you wish, but I like the squash just as it is. It’s so flavorful!

Thank You

That’s All I Have to Share With You This Week.

As I always try to convey… we sure do appreciate all of you. Thank you for joining us for another Tuesday Tidbits.

We continue to keep those affected by the tornadoes, flooding and Hurricanes in our prayers. It is heartbreaking!

We are wishing all of you a wonderful week ahead. Enjoy what this upcoming week brings to you. And whatever you have planned… make every day count and be thankful for your Blessings.

    1. Happy Fall, Judy! The Pecan Pie was delicious. Did you know there is a shortage of pecans? I got the last bag on the shelf. Supposedly, the shortage is due to the hurricanes. I am not 100% sure about that, but the store told me it.
Hope all is well with you!
      Enjoy your week.

  1. The photos are stunning…autumn colors in all of their glory. How amazing your mother’s rose still blooming after 60 years. Not only landscape photos but beautiful food photos. I would love a slice of pecan pie! I have never tried grape pie, but it sounds delicious. Our fall color usually arrives in November, but with our severe drought, I am not sure we will see much color this year.

    Happy Tuesday, Nancy 🍂🧡🍂

    1. Thank you, Pam. It’s almost 80 degrees here today, so Autumn has been not only colorful but warm.
The grape pie was a bit sweet for me, but the pecan pie was heavenly!
Thank you for your sweet comments. Happy Tuesday!

  2. What a week you had for colors over the lake, Nance! The contrast of the red leaves and the moon over the lake and the Northern Lights make me very happy, indeed. May the October comfort continue!

    1. Yes, indeed! I need all the comfort I can get. At least we have turned off the news. And the weather here is perfect for getting outdoors!
      Happy Tuesday!

    1. I love that you visit my posts dear friend!
      How kind of you! 😊🥰
      Thank you!
I am also glad you enjoyed the pie. It was a lovely evening.
      Happy Tuesday!

  3. So many gorgeous photos today Nancy! I am always thrilled to see a full moon and the Hunters Moon was incredible. Lucky you to see the Northern Lights over the lake, wow! Your autumn color is indeed beautiful, we are only just beginning to see the changing leaves in the South. You have been busy in the kitchen! I’ve never had grape pie, it looks so good. Have a great week!
    Jenna

    1. The grape pie is good but a bit sweet. The next time, I will add less sugar as the grapes are already sweet.
Thank you for enjoying all the loveliness around us.
      Happy Tuesday, dear Jenna!

  4. Nancy, your beautiful fall photos made my day! Your pecan pie looks amazing. Yes, it is true there will be a pecan shortage this year. The Georgia trees were devastated by Helene. A lot of the cotton and other crops in Georgia also suffered.

    1. Oh my goodness! These darn hurricanes have caused so much pain and suffering. Its so incredibly sad.

I am glad you came to visit as all my friends here brighten my day. Thank you.
Enjoy the rest of your week, Beth.

  5. Stunning! Thank you for sharing the beauty of fall. Seeing these autumn images this morning over a cup of coffee was the perfect way to start my day. I know those cool temps will have you returning to AZ soon 🌵

    1. Thanks for starting your day with me. How nice!

Believe it or not, it’s almost 80 today and gorgeous.
Happy Tuesday and thanks for all your sweetness!

  6. Nancy your photos are so beautiful especially the photo of fallen leaves….all the colors are so pretty. I have heard and tasted raisin pie but not grape….will you share your recipe? I like pecan pie and the recipient had to be pleased. Autumn is lovely indeed. Have a great and wonderful October. hugs

    1. Thank you so much for the visit, Kari!
I will share the recipe with you, but you must have Concord Grapes. I don’t think they are available in Florida.
Thanks for enjoying all the love I shared today. Happy Tuesday!

  7. Wow Nancy, so many beautiful pictures. I am so jealous you saw the northern lights, thank you for sharing them. We went out for 2 nights and didn’t see them. You should have a food blog! Your food always looks delicious. I have never tasted a grape pie. Next time we visit my husbands relatives there I will look for a piece at a bakery or restaurant.

    1. Yes Grape Pies are popular here during harvest time. (September-October)
Thank you for enjoying all the pictures. The northern lights were magical. I hope you get to see them one day!
      Happy Weekend to you!

  8. Nancy, such stunning fall foliage. I love seeing the different colors and those gorgeous views. How special you captured the northern lights. I have never tasted grape pie. The pecan pie sounds heavenly. Thanks for sharing your part of the world. Have a great week.

    1. Thank Linda for such sweet comments. Grape Pie is quite tasty.
The Fall Foliage has been spectacular here. I am glad you enjoyed the photos.
Thank you for the visit. Enjoy the rest of your week.

  9. I’m back! Not that I’ve been away, but I read your post two days ago, then had to dash off for a doctor’s appointment and have only just returned now. How is time slipping away? I love all the gorgeous fall colours you’ve shared and feel an element of envy – but only in the sense of When Harry Met Sally “I’ll have what she’s having!” envy – regarding you being able to witness the colours of the Norther Lights. How delightful for you 🥰 and your Sweet Man. Sadly, the Southern Lights don’t come this far north, but one day (whenever that one day may be) I will see either the Northern or Southern light for myself.

    1. I am so glad you returned, Miss Clare! Ever since I retired, I have been busier than ever! I really could use an extra day in the week.
Yes, the northern lights were outstanding. They don’t often come this far south, but I think they did because of some solar storm. Not sure.
I am glad you enjoyed the fall colors we are having. It’s been an incredible fall.
      Happy weekend to you! 😊
