Tuesday Tidbits #308 We Are Having a Cold Snap

Winter!

I remember my Mom saying, “We’re having a Cold Snap.” She would mention that during many ice-cold winter days. The saying fits perfectly for our whole nation this week—it’s bitter cold!

Oh, don’t you worry! We may not have any snow here in the desert but I can just imagine how beautiful our trees in Pennsylvania must look right now.

How about you? Enjoying Hot Chocolate a bit more? Making soup to warm you? Have a fire burning in the fireplace? Are you putting an extra blanket on the bed? Wearing layers when you go outside? Shoes and socks instead of sandals?

It’s Boot Wearin’ Time!

Time for Mexican Hot Chocolate! Read about it HERE!

Homemade Southwest BBQ Soup

Mexican Hot Chocolate and a comfy quilt. All that’s missing is a sweet treat and a good book!

We are getting cozy next to the fireplace on these chilly days!

“There’s nothing better than curling up with a good book and sitting in front of the fire on winter evenings.” —Leo Sayer

I made this chalkboard to display in our kitchen.

Flowers!

Even though it’s cold outside and we are experiencing a drought. I saw Brittlebush blooming! I was thrilled to see it! It always seems to be the first flower to bloom in the desert. At least where we live.

Here’s a fun cartoon/digital image of the photo above.

This could be in a Comic Book.

I was delighted to see another flower! The neighbor’s paperwhites are blooming! They’re such a cheerful sight!

Donkey’s in the Neighborhood

There have been sightings of several wild Donkeys/Burros in our neighborhood. It’s common for them to roam, but this is the first time they have come this close to home. They were brought to Arizona over 150 years ago to help with mining. These are the descendants. We always enjoy seeing them!

Birthday Wishes

Sweet Man wants to send you all a Big Thank You for all the Birthday Wishes! He had a great birthday and is happily on the road to recovery. Your kind thoughts really meant a lot!

He and his buddies had a wonderful birthday party!

Thank You

That’s all for now. Stay warm my friends!

As I always try to convey… we sure do appreciate all of you. Thank you for joining us for another Tuesday Tidbits.

We are wishing all of you a wonderful week ahead. Enjoy what this upcoming week brings to you. And whatever you have planned… make every day count and be thankful for your Blessings.

  1. It’s a struggle to stay warm today, Nancy. It’s -3℉ right now. Brr. I like your chalkboard, your quilt is beautiful, and the soup looks delicious. Today definitely requires some hot chocolate and soup. Stay warm. Very glad to hear hubby is progressing and doing well after his surgery.

  2. Good morning, Nancy! Your home looks beautiful, warm, and cozy! I would love a bowl of your soup for dinner tonight. Your chalkboard art is fabulous. Mexican hot chocolate sounds delicious. During our very cold weather, I have been enjoying a mug of hot chocolate every afternoon! I have never heard of Brittlebush, but it is beautiful. I am happy to read that Sweet Man had a wonderful birthday and is on the road to recovery! Happy Tuesday!

    1. Thank you, Pam, he is doing well!
Keep the hot chocolate coming. The frigid temperatures make staying warm challenging!
Thank you for all your sweet compliments. You are always so kind!

  3. Your home looks very warm and cozy and I love your chalkboard! We have been in the teens every morning, too cold for Alabama! Your Mexican hot chocolate would hit the spot!! I hope you both have a wonderful week!

  4. Nancy, I love your chalkboard! We are experiencing a cold snap where I live but it hasn’t gotten below freezing. I’ve made lots of different soups. I don’t know what to expect tonight. First they predicted snow and ice, now they are predicting a wintry mix whatever that means. Have a wonderful week!

  5. Cute boots to go scootin’ in.Wonderful photos and artwork. I love the chalkboard. It is cold here. 1º F this morning.

  6. Good morning, Nancy! This is such a beautiful post for this cold winter’s day. Your soup looks delicious. We have definitely been drinking lots of hot chocolate and eating plenty of soup to stay warm. It is 5 degrees here, and we received a light dusting of snow overnight. Have a wonderful day and stay warm!

  7. I can tell you that your streets in PA are cold and crunchy — VERY cold and VERY crunchy. I’m not there, but they are getting what we have in Michigan. (almost noon and still only 2!) So seeing those yellow blooms is like an extra special gift this morning! Keep cozy!

  8. Bitterly cold in Oklahoma too. It’s definitely soup, hot tea, and hot chocolate weather. When I lived in Mexico, I heard a tale of the molinillo. I didn’t find it easy to use, but the story goes that a Mexican mother would judge her prospective daughter-in-law based on her skills with a molinillo. Could she make the hot chocolate frothy enough? Your sign is cute–well done, Nancy!

  9. I must add that I love “your” handsome burro. How nice to have him visit. I wonder if his arrival might have something to do with the drought you mentioned?

    1. We are thinking the same. They left a water source but it may be the green grass in the pocket parks they are seeking. We are not sure.

  10. I have to try to remember that, when I’m sweltering in our harsh summer weather, you are enjoying lovely cool days. Ok, it’s not that I forget, Miss Nancy, but I appreciate the reminder 🥰 We are experiencing the exact opposite here at the moment with a heatwave bearing down on us over the next three days. I’m grateful that Willis Haviland Carrier invented the air conditioner and that Dr Martin Green and his team at the University of New South Wales effectively inventing the modern solar panel, both of which provide me with ‘free’ cool and comfortable conditions inside my home. I just have to spend each morning giving my plants a long cool drink. Sadly I’ve lost a few, but I’ll replace them when the heat passes. Love your boots 👢

  11. Sitting here in Gilbert, Arizona, as I read this, I heartily agree that it got COLD here! But it’s sunny and to me that’s what counts while we visit. Gorgeous flowers, both wild and domestic, Nancy. Cool to see the wild burros!

Back home we had very little snow (mountains got plenty) and the temps are hovering in the teens at night! Luckily we still have another 11 days until we return home.

  12. Brrrrrrrrr Nancy. it is cooler here in Florida too. If I have to wear a jacket to leave the house, that is cold to me. Your blackboard art is lovely and I love hot chocolate and am drinking some as we speak. Have a great and warm week. Hugs

  13. We do have snow, but it is warmer than usual. January is supposed to be our coldest month, with temperatures around -4F, or colder, but not this year. It is currently 30F, last week it was 42F some days..I usually take one longer one hour walk every day and yesterday it was 35F and it was a warm wind. Your home looks very cozy.

  14. Well now I found where to comment! Yay! We’ve had a cold snap too. Wasn’t that Buckeyes win so great against Notre Dame? Your chalkboard is awesome, Nancy. Happy belated birthday wishes to your guy! Happy weekend!

    1. I am so happy you know where to comment now. It’s so good to hear from you. ☺️
And how about our Buckeyes? What a game! What a season!
Thanks for the Birthday wishes for sweet man.
Have a great weekend, dear Kitty!

  15. Nancy, your posts are always so beautiful and heart warming, it’s hard to remember there is cold weather outside. I love the picture of your bed and fireplace as well as your flowers – real and cartoon. Just lovely. Have a wonderful time this week. I’ll be thinking of all of you! xxxxx Marsha 🙂

  16. Your home is lovely Nancy. It is chilly here, but not freezing. I still cuddle up with a blanket in the evenings, Such a handsome burro. When we visited France, there was the cutest burro with the name Nicoli. He would come running and hee hawing toward us. The flowers are lovely. I see daffodils popping up here. Stay cozy and thanks for your sweet visit.
