Tuesday Tidbits #357 Easing Into the New Year

WELCOME 2026!

A new year has arrived, and with it, a quiet pause from me. This last week was especially wonderful as we enjoyed the calm days between Christmas and New Year’s—a slow stretch of time. Even though I didn’t know what day it was half the time, it was a good week of doing nothing—unhurried mornings sipping my coffee by the fire and time that was simply enjoyed rather than filled.

We enjoyed watching the Amaryllis bloom!

And we also watched the Gila Woodpeckers do acrobatics on our hummingbird feeders.

We definitely enjoy the prism rainbow lights all over out plantation shutters every morning! The rainbow lights come from the crystals hanging from the chandelier.

We ate our first orange from our very own Orange Tree! It was so sweet! 🙂

As I continue healing and finding my rhythm again, this start to 2026 feels less about doing and more about simply being. I pretty much have nothing to share with you this week for Tuesday Tidbits as I enjoyed the quiet and the marked improvement in my walking without a cane! I use it in the morning and during the night. I am close to “ditching the cane!” (That phrase came from Butch Richardson from Everyday Living. He had mentioned it to me in a comment and it made me smile!)

Oh, I did take down Christmas. It’s packed away but some boxes need to be put in the attic. I am not quite ready to climb the attic ladder quite yet so Christmas is tucked away in the guest bedroom.

Winter whites and greenery have replaced all the Christmas red.

As the year begins, I’m celebrating small but meaningful steps—like saying goodbye to the cane and easing back into neighborhood walks.

I am curious whether these Narcissus are blooming in the neighborhood around the corner from me. I guess the only way I am going to find out is to walk over there and see for myself!

Picture of the Narcissus last January!

Happy 2026!

Here’s to healing, fresh air, and taking this new year one gentle day at a time.

Wishing you a gentle, hopeful start to 2026! Thank you always for visiting. Happy New Year Dear Friends!

  1. Good morning Nancy!
It’s so great you are walking farther and farther, and it sounds like soon without the cane…yippee!
Your week sounds so nice and calm and your photos too. The beautiful Christmas whites with the greenery are what I hope to achieve as we slowly put our red and green Christmas away this week…what fun to see your prism lights dancing!
Always enjoy your beautiful blog, thank you for all that you share with us, it’s a joy! Happy, happy, happy New Year wishes!

    1. Oh Sue, you are always a delight and always so sweet. Thank you always for enjoying!
The prism lights are always a joy to see! They make my heart happy.
      ✨Happy 2026!✨

    1. Me toooooo, Beth. But I have this love/hate relationship with it. Lol!
Thanks for all the well wishes! ✨Happy 2026, Beth!✨

  2. It sounds like a lovely in-between time — I enjoy that lack of schedule for a bit, then ready to “get into it” again. And I love your “plans” for the new year. Three cheers on the walking and the cane situation. And oh, your home is looking lovely. An orange tree? How totally delightful!

    1. Oh, it is so delightful to pick an orange! This one is a navel orange. Today, we plan on picking a Minneola tangelo from our other orange tree.
I’ll be making fresh orange juice soon!

And yes, a routine begins today, as Reality starts, with the house needing to be cleaned!

      So glad you stopped over!
      ✨Happy 2026!✨

  3. Happy Healthy New Year, Nancy! I loved seeing the quiet, gentle calmness in your home and especially those prisms on your shutters! You’re progressing so well and am so happy for you. Enjoy your very own oranges! 🍊

    1. There’s just something about picking your own orange!
Thank you for all the love, Kitty. It’s always so good to hear from you!
      ✨Happy 2026!✨

  4. You are in the perfect rhythm for January. I love all of the whites, but the amaryllis are gorgeous! I am so happy you are recovering so well and taking your time. That is a good idea, my friend!

    1. Thank you my lovely friend. No need to rush it.
But I am ready for my walks all over!
Thanks for all your sweet comments.
      ✨Happy 2026!✨

  5. Woohoo Nancy…you are doing well and I am so excited because that means you will soon be out and about taking beautiful photos again for all of us to enjoy. Love your Amaryllis and your “whites”. Fresh & clean. Happy 2026 my friend and well done. hugs

    1. Thank you so much Kari! I am feeling quite proud!
Thank you also for the weekly encouragement comments. I appreciated all of them!

  6. Happy Tuesday, Nancy! I chuckled at your comment about not knowing what day it was last week. I’m glad your recovery is on track. It was this time last year, I fell on the last step in my brother’s garage and rolled my right foot and ankle. I still have that cane! I use it to open my 8 foot tall drapes 😆
I love your winter decor. I go with blue and white here. Love those amaryllis! My Christmas tree is still up but I’m tackling it this week! It snowed here all day, I think winter is here for a few days! Enjoy your week.

  7. Nancy, it’s a good sign that you are able to just rest in this in between time–probably the most healing thing you can do! It will not be long until you will be walking your neighborhood again. Isn’t it wonderful that you winter in AZ and don’t have to worry about slipping in the snow and ice? Happy 2026!

    1. Oh yes! I chose to have my surgery out here in AZ because the weather is perfect for rehab, and our house has no stairs.
Thank you for all the love today.
      ✨Happy 2026!✨

  8. Happy New Year Nancy! I’m so glad to hear you’re making progress walking without you cane. I always enjoy relaxing the week between Christmas and New Year. “Being” instead of “doing” is good for all of us after the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. Wishing you continued progress and healing and a calm and peaceful week ahead. ♥

    1. Happy 2026 to you, dear Mary!
And yes, I enjoyed my quiet week.
But now reality has come—time to clean the house. Oh, and decorate the She Shed for Valentine’s Day!
Thank you always for your sweet comments. Looking forward to a great year!
      Sweet Blessings to you!✨🩷✨

  9. I love how you referred to that week between as a slow stretch. How fun to harvest your first orange! It feels good to have Christmas away, and I finished up the same in our antique mall booths yesterday. I was also outside, bagging stray leaves which landed beneath my shrubs, and noticed lots of little starts of various plants. Perhaps ol man winter will decide on a short stay here. I hope! Have a great new week adventuring without the cane!

    1. Thank you so much Rita! I have been venturing. And it is going very well.
      Don’t work too hard!
      Thanks for the visit.
      ✨Happy 2026!✨

  10. Hello, I loved the photos today. I cannot even pick a favorite. But the thought of eating your first homegrown orange has me smiling and the photo if so good, love how you left the water droplets on it.

  11. I love your Amaryllis! They are so much fun to watch grow. I am happy that you are doing better. Sometimes it takes getting laid up to remind us what’s really important in life. As usual, your decorating is beautiful Nancy!

  12. It sounds like your year is starting out really well. I can appreciate that you are making small but meaningful steps in your recovery. It will be a year in February that my husband shattered his pelvis and he says that often. Enjoy your peace and the beauty around you.

    1. I have been thinking of him. I sure hope he is recovering well. What a year he has had!
Thank you so much for checking in, Karen.
      ✨Happy 2026!✨
