Hello Friends!

It’s good to be back…

We had a fabulous European vacation and that was the reason for my absence. I have so much to share with you. We are still getting settled in and almost over the jet lag.

So how about if I share our first day… of where we began our trip…

Munich, Germany!

The old architecture is just amazing. This is the center of downtown Munich.

It’s called Marienplatz. It has been the main square since 1158!

The Marianplatz Tower has motorized figurines that perform at 11:00 a.m., 12 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. It really is something to see! Here is a short video of the performance.

The square is a very busy place of people coming and going as this is the center for shopping, restaurants and lots of cafes! The following picture shows just how busy it can be!

From here we walked to the

Viktualienmarkt or the outdoor Market.

What a fun place! There are lots of food and craft vendors with wonderful delights. But the best part is …they have there very own outdoor Beer Garden! It’s where we shared our first German beer and food …right here in the Market’s Beer Garden

I know you are wondering what in the world is the above food dish called.

It’s Pork Knuckle or Schweinshaxe. It’s basically a deliciously roasted Ham Hock. We had it with Potato Salad. We shared this and our beers. Perfect for our first German dish!

After eating we toured the market and all its vendors!

After the Market we headed back through the square to our hotel for a rest.

So that we could come back to this restaurant named Augustiner…for a lovely dinner.

The frankfurters and sausage had amazing flavor! I loved the sweetness of the sauerkraut. The German beers are fabulous and cost less then water! Yes… we had a pretzel too. These were hard and crisp… not our cup of tea …for 1.50 €

After dinner we walked over to…

St. Peter’s

and I took just a few shots to show you how spectacular the inside of St. Peter’s was! St. Peter’s is the oldest church in Munich …dating back to 1158. Visitors are welcome to climb the tower at designated times to get a higher glimpse of Munich. It was closed… But the inside of the church was open and it was AH-MAZING!

After viewing the beautiful church… I heard to bear left and to walk half way down the hall to find a coffin that is behind glass with a skeleton. It is the skeleton of Saint Munditia. She was transferred here and put on display in 1883. She is the patron saint of “Spinsters.” Considered a Christian martyr. Her glass eyes are what you see first. And the wreath on her head is another sign of martyrdom. Strange but so cool.

What a fabulous first day in Munich! I am going to leave you with a video that just lets you hear the sights and sounds of the Center of Munich as we walked back to our Hotel.
