Tuesday Tidbits #373 Another Kind of Paradise

We love this view!

Thank You!

First, I want to thank you for all the lovely comments on my last post about The Beauty of Life in Arizona . It truly is beautiful and I appreciate your kind words. But it does get hot in the summer. So when it gets hot Miss Nancy and Sweet Man head to the Lake in Pennsylvania!

We Made it Back to Our Other Paradise

We have returned to our summer home by the lake in Pennsylvania. It’s good to be back but the To Do List is growing!

Forget Me Nots

Even though I love these little blue flowers. They are everywhere!

Most of our gardens look like the above. I know, I know, it’s very pretty, but all those forget-me-nots have to be pulled when they stop blooming and die off. Don’t you worry, they reseed themselves for next year. I also like to remind myself that my Mom planted these forget-me-nots 55+ years ago. 💙 For my new readers, our summer home is my childhood home. It is comforting to feel my parents’ presence in our gardens and in our home.

Our country kitchen. There’s still a lot of Mom in the kitchen. That’s her hutch. And Dad is still by the table. The brick that you see is the back of our living room fireplace. My Dad built the fireplace and left it exposed in the kitchen.

Busy is My Middle Name

The yard has been keeping me busy already. I’ve been pulling weeds, trimming bushes damaged by the freeze, and sadly our lilacs got hit too. 🙁 Between unpacking, planning a paint refresh on the porch, and getting the patio set up for summer, there’s definitely no shortage of projects around here.

This porch is getting a new coat of paint.

Rhododendrons

The Rhodies are blooming! They were not hit by the freeze like the lilacs. Thank goodness.

The bees love the Rhodies!

I’m never too busy to make bouquets. ~Nancy

The Weather

We arrived in cold, rainy weather, and almost overnight it turned hot and sunny. Welcome to spring, moving into summer, I guess! But let me remind you that the day we left AZ, it was 109°.

Cold and Wet!

Warm and Sunny!

Movie

In the middle of all my work, I did sneak away for a fun night out with friends for dinner and a movie. We saw The Devil Wears Prada 2 and really enjoyed it! Have you seen it?

We did not see the movie here. But this is the entrance to Erie, Pennsylvania’s Warner Theater. It was commissioned by the Warner Brothers in 1929.

That’s A Wrap

I need to get back to work. The weeds won’t pull themselves.

Thanks for stopping by. See you next time from our little corner of paradise!

  1. Good morning, Nancy. Butch had asked me if you were back to your summer home! And obviously you are 🥰 I love seeing the forget me nots 💙 They are so sweet! I am sorry about the lilacs getting hit by the freeze. The rhododendrons are gorgeous! I can’t imagine all that you have to do! Take it easy my friend!

  2. Welcome back to your other Paradise! It’s wonderful — such a cozy, happy, lovely spot. And to be by the water– well, I will be soon. (Rick went north to open things this week.) Your flowers are blooming full force! You must be over the moon to be back (and exhausted from all the start-up work!)

    1. It is a bit tiring but so worth it! Yesterday was grocery shopping day! The prices are horrendous!
Thanks for all your sweet comments. Enjoy your place up North, very soon!

  3. As always Nancy, loved everything ❣️
Haven’t seen the movie yet, but so looking forward to it!

  4. You really do have the best of both worlds…desert beauty and a fantastic lake home! We also missed out on lilacs this year. It’s been such a weird weather year! Good luck with your to-do list! I’m looking forward to reading all about your summer activities in PA. Take care.

  5. Hey Nancy…another beautiful post with lovely flowers…I hear ya about the flowers that can be a nuisance …we have Mexican Petunias here in Florida and when snow birds come, they ooh and aah over them and we, Floridians pull them up. LOL. Interestingly they are a purple color and can grow quite tall. I am sure you love the memories you have of your wonderful mom and dad. Cherish them always…as I am sure you will. 🥰🌸🦋

  6. Nancy, your lake photos are beautiful…what a peaceful and restorative kind of paradise! I could almost feel the calm from the water and sunshine through your photos. I know coming home to garden and yard cleanup after time away is never the fun part of a trip. Our hydrangeas took a hit this winter from a late freeze after weeks of unseasonably warm weather. Wishing you a little more paradise and a little less cleanup this week! 💚🌿🚤

  7. I’m glad you made it back to the lake safely and escaped the AZ heat, Nancy! Do you guys typically drive back or fly? I guess with 2 homes, you can leave everything in place. Hopefully you have good caretakers at both places. Life at the lake looks amazing even if there are projects looming. Enjoy, my friend!

  8. Nancy Lou….I think I’d forgotten that your lake place was your childhood home. Thanks for the reminder and the beautiful comment about feeling the presence of your parents in the house, the gardens…which are stunning, btw! I can only imagine all that you want to do – in addition to the lengthy project list you mentioned! But those rhodies will keep you company, won’t they??? Ours have yet to bloom but I’m feeling hopeful. Gotta say…every spring I love your posts about the warm welcome you receive when you head to PA. Pretty darn spectacular! Enjoy, enjoy! xo! 💝😊💝

  9. Hi, I will be looking forward to your posts, I am new to your blog, so it will be fun to see the PA home.
Thank you for all the flower photos. 🙂
Happy Gardening, that is what I am doing too.

    1. Thank you Carla. And I am a new friend to your blog as well. We are both going to have a fun summer!
      Enjoy your weekend!

  10. Welcome back to the East coast, Nancy! Like you, my lilac suffered from the mid-March snow and freeze (and I even covered mine so carefully!). I whacked mine back once I knew it wasn’t blooming, both for timing before new buds form, and also to contain its size in my garden.
The garden work can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re trying to do it before the consistent heat and humidity stays.
Note to self: go see DWP 2!
    Happy summer in PA!

    1. Oh it’s a good movie!!
And yes I have to trim a lilac so that it does not overwhelm a space. The never-ending work of a gardener!
Happy Gardening! Looking forward to seeing your gardens.

  11. Your flowers are all so pretty. I love sweet forget me nots and your rhodies are impressive! Lots of weeding though, I get it! I have to do it too. Your lake house looks so nice!

  12. Your pictures are so pretty! You are surrounded by beauty in both of your homes :). I love all of your flower pictures- stunning! I saw The Devil Wears Prada 2 and enjoyed it. That theater in PA looks so neat- I love historical buildings.

  13. Hi dear Nancy! I was wondering when you’d be back in my birth state, and there you are. I do love your cozy home there that you lived in with your parents. How sad about the lilacs, but look at the rhododendrons…amazing! I guess forget me knots are never forgotten for years and years. So glad you got to see a movie in the midst of the busyness. Happy Memorial Day weekend my friend. ❤️

Thank You So Much... for sharing your kind words. I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to share your thoughts.
