Tuesday Tidbits #92 Creativity Brings a Smile

I can’t believe it’s Tuesday. This week went by pretty darn fast. In fact, so has Summer. Today right here in our little town the kids are going back to school. (Some are going in the morning and some in the afternoon and a day of virtual learning while the school gets cleaned.) I know, I know we still have a lot of summer left… but when you see Halloween up all over the place and Christmas too… well it just gets me a bit discouraged.

Then my attitude changed when I went on my usual walk around Lakeside. I began to notice some changes!

The old road posts were getting a facelift! These old concrete posts are old! They were here when I was a young girl. They are ancient and of course are beginning to show their age… just like this old gal! 😆 So… now that we have beautiful street signs to guide us… a few local artists decided it was time to give these road posts a fresh new look.

This last one has a few pictures of memorable places that are now gone but were a big part of our summers growing up here on Lakeside.

Seeing this creativity brings a smile to my face. We all need that right now.

And for some of us… let’s keep on enjoying what’s left of summer!

Please know… my thoughts and prayers are with all those who are returning to a brand new school year.

  1. You are surrounded by some very talented artists who have certainly put their talents to good use for all to enjoy. Impressive pieces and wonderful messages. I join you in hoping the new hybrid school year works well and keeps people safe. Stay well and enjoy the last joys of summer at your beautiful lake.

    1. Thank you Judy!
Yes… I’m so glad that these artists came together to bring us all smiles.
And yes… praying for a safe school year!
      Enjoy your day my friend!

  2. Good morning Nancy. I love the old concrete posts that have been painted by local artists. What a great way to share a little happiness and smiles during this time. Each one is truly unique.

My little EM starts K4 today, I am excited for her, but a little sad. She has grown way too fast…where did the time go?

Wishing you a lovely Tuesday, my friend!

    1. How sweet she gets to go to school… and we all have watched her grow. She is always going to be your little…
Sending a special hug your way!

Thank you also for the love today!

  3. How creative … love it! Yeah, I share your sentiment and can’t believe how quickly the summer has flown by. Old? Never! Although my ‘Covid hair’ may indicate that ‘I am’ definitely getting old 🤣

    1. Oh my gosh… you just reminded me that I have to text my AZ colorist for a color when I get back!

Thanks for always stopping by my friend… enjoy the rest of summer because it’s not over yet! 🤗

  4. Love these! Such a great way to spread joy! Makes me wonder if we can do something similar where I live. When the lockdown first happened, families in my community painted rocks and placed them around for people to find on their walks. It would be fun to have something more permanent.

    1. Yes… and I agree! These will be permanent which is fabulous.
I also just heard they are going to make brochures for a walking tour to see them and to read about the history of each one. I love it! There are quite a few more that have yet to be painted.
Thank you so much for the visit and your kind words.

  5. I’m so happy to see that the posts were beautifully made over instead of discarded. I hope all the kids and staff are safe as they return to the classroom too Nancy. Take good care! ❤️

    1. Sandra… I agree with you! A fabulous idea. There may even be a walking tour designed for these. There are about 25 more that need to be painted. Such a fun way to bring happiness to our community.
Thanks so much always for your kind words, Sandra! Happy Tuesday!

  6. Hi Nancy, those old posts look amazing and add so much cheer – yes, we all need a bit of that every now and then. In Brisbane, the Artforce Project oversees the creative ‘updating’ of traffic control boxes. This has led to incredible facelifts for otherwise unsightly green/grey boxes.

So in my effort to share a little cheer, you can see last years entries here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/brisbanecitycouncil/albums/72157710665215023/with/49740219173/

      1. We had an amazing one – a version of Van Gogh’s Sunflowers – just around the corner from wher we lived, though I never took a photo of it.

  7. Awww, those posts are so pretty! And someone sure had fun doing them! I’m starting to think about Christmas, but only because I’m considering doing homemade cards and if I do I need to get going as they take time. On the other hand, I have been thinking about not sending any this year. Last year we received so few I wonder if they aren’t a lost tradition now that we’re all connected all day every day on social media. I don’t know.

  8. What a great way to brighten up a day! Our town did that same thing one year but they had to make free standing lighthouses. All the lighthouse were painted and auctioned off in the fall for a good cause.

  9. This is beautiful. The artists did a wonderful job and we love that you noticed it on a day when you were feeling a little down. It is also getting to us, every time we see the calendar. The year is ending already, crazy. Just like that. But as you said, there are things around that bring a smile to our face and we should focus on that.

    1. I am just seeing your comment! It was in my pending file. THANK YOU for your kind words and for enjoying my post.
      Have a wonderful week!

  10. What a wonderful idea that the artists came up with. They certainly do put a smile on your face and we all need that now. Enjoy the rest of your summer at the lake.

    1. Thank you so much Karen! They sure are lovely. And we are enjoying our time immensely. Thank you for the visit.
      Have a wonderful week.
