Tuesday Tidbits #278 Cottageware in Our Cottage

Hello Friends and Welcome to Tea on Tuesday

I am tickled pink to be a guest blogger for Tea on Tuesday with my lovely friends Mary of Home is Where the Boat Is and Pam of Everday Living. Tea on Tuesday takes place the third Tuesday of each month. Both of these women share their passion for tea and their beautiful ways of serving it. You can explore their stunning tea time settings through the lovely photos and links provided at the end of this post.

Welcome to My Childhood Home

I am delighted to have you here in our cozy country kitchen. Hello to new first-time visitors. This is the house that made me. Our summer home in Pennsylvania is my childhood home. We live in Arizona during the winter months but to escape the heat we come here for country living. In this kitchen, I am always filled with nostalgia as I reminisce about my Mom’s baking. The aroma of freshly-baked bread filling the air and the sight of it cooling on the kitchen table are vivid memories. This table holds the warmth of family gatherings, where we enjoyed delicious home-cooked meals prepared by Mom, while Dad engaged us with his stories and wisdom. Each moment spent around this table is etched deep in my heart.

There are still many details in this kitchen that were my parents. My Mom’s hutch, the Mallard Duck Pitchers with plates, and the brick chimney wall my Dad built. Oh, and let me not forget, I am using my Mother’s silver on the table today.

Thanks for coming to our kitchen to enjoy hot Cinnamon Spice Tea, which can also be called Cinnamon Sunset Tea, by Harney & Sons. Each sachet has a blend of black teas, three kinds of cinnamon, orange peel and sweet cloves. A delightful tea to have at the table today.

I have set the table for two here in our country cottage kitchen. Won’t you please join me?

We will enjoy flavorful orange cranberry scones from a local bakery called Sweet Spot, located inside The Edinboro Market. I chose Orange & Tangerine Marmalade from Wilkin & Sons LTD from England to have with our scones. It’s quite tasty!

This marmalade has the perfect texture and a balance of sweetness and bitterness.

I placed the marmalade in my glass jam jar and along side it I have my version of clotted cream. I whip heavy whipping cream until stiff peaks are formed then I fold in a 1/4 cup of sour cream along with 1-1/2 Tablespoons of confectioner’s sugar. Add more sugar if you like it sweeter. (No cooking involved.) This is definitely not clotted cream, but I like to pretend that it is.

I have served my version of clotted cream in a small vintage peach luster vase along side the Orange Tangerine Marmalade.

With our tea and conversation, we will savor delightful Orange Cranberry Scones. Their flavor perfectly complements the Orange Spice of the Cinnamon tea. If your tea needs sweetening, please add a turbinado sugar cube.

Thank you to Curtis the baker from Sweet Spot located in Edinboro Market for the scones.

Cottageware

Last summer, I purchased the vintage hand-painted cottageware at a consignment store, which, to my delight, is from Keele Street Pottery LTD. of England.

PPC is for Paramount Pottery Co. of England, which Keele Street Pottery purchased between 1947 and 1949.
This piece is marked KSP for Keele Street Pottery.
All pieces are hand-painted. I was overjoyed to add the butter dish to complete the tea set.

Since then, I have found the Fire King Peach Luster Tea Cups, saucers, and dessert plates. I collected the vintage Fire King pieces from a Texas antique store during our spring trip back to the lake house. I’m so glad I found them as they go nicely with the Cottageware Tea Set.

I added an orange slice to the tea as there are hints of orange flavors in the tea.

Centerpiece Bouquet

When I saw the orange-colored roses at the grocery store, I had to get them for the Tea Table. But I knew I had to add some of my very own flowers from our cottage gardens. The Yellow Loosestrife flowers were added as they last a long time in a bouquet and because my Mom planted them 50+ years ago. I feel as though Mom is here having tea with us.

How do you like the vase? There’s a charming story behind this vase.

I had a chat with my friend in Arizona over the phone. I mentioned to her that I only had a clear glass vase for my tea table, and she chuckled and told me that she had the perfect vase. Right then she offered to ship it to me. It didn’t take long to get the vase and I was so pleased when I saw it! Isn’t it perfect? Thank you, Mary from Arizona!

I enhanced the bouquet with additional Loosestrife, and also created smaller bouquets by cutting Feverfew Daisies and Evening Primrose, also known as Buttercups according to my Mom. I arranged them on the table to add a country cottage feel.

Tablecloth and napkins were Amazon purchases. The dinner plates are not marked and I found those at a garage sale.

Thank You Dear Friends!

I am truly grateful that you joined me in our cozy country kitchen today for tea and conversation. Your visits mean a lot to me, and I always appreciate the time we spend together.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to my dear friends Mary and Pam for graciously inviting me to join them for Tea on Tuesdays. I encourage you to take a moment today to visit their beautiful tea settings.

It’s perfectly paired with your Fire King Peach Luster teacups and vase for your clotted cream. I’ll have to try your version; it sounds so easy and much more affordable than purchasing those tiny jars. Love your pretty bouquet in your vintage vase with your orange rose and loosestrife flowers…so striking against the background of the brick chimney! How sweet of your friend to ship it to you. 4. How beautiful Nancy. I’m sorry but I’ll be a bit late.
I love that you still get to enjoy your childhood home and all the lingering memories there. You tickled one of my memories, too. My mom had a similar tea set, well the little pot, sugar, and creamer, but I have no idea what happened to it!

  5. What a beautiful tea setting in a beautiful, cozy kitchen filled with memories❤️. You are so talented, my friend.

  6. Nancy you have set a perfect table for tea! The little cottages are adorable and your scones look delish. I love the memories you have of your family in the same house. Isn’t it wonderful that we have such great memories of our growing up homes? I believe it aids in our development as children and obviously influences us as we grow older. I find I say and do things just like my sweet Mother did and I have great memories of our home growing up.
Your roses are a perfect color for your table and your flowers added from your garden add just the right touch. I like how your tea cups take on just the right hue of peach and kudos to your friend for realizing the vase would be a perfect addition to your tea time. Thank you for sharing your tea time on your Tuesday Tidbits. Have a wonderful week!

  7. I can easily imagine myself having tea today in the kitchen of your childhood home and enjoying breathing in the charm and good vibes with you, Nancy 💐 Like someone commented, no one sets a table like you! Having tea is kind of an East coast thing? It should be a mandatory daily break to sit and relax. The Brits have it down!

Gorgeous tablescapes, and I enjoyed walking down memory lane with you in your home. Have a splendid week!

  8. Thanks for the “invitation” to tea! It looks lovely. I’m a sucker for cottageware, though I don’t have any, and I love your country kitchen. The brick wall is wonderful. It is both airy and cozy and that can be a hard thing to pull off. The table is beautiful! What a delightful tea!

    1. Thank Jeanne! That means the world to me!
Thanks so much for coming to our country kitchen for tea! Happy Tuesday!

  10. Nancy, I can certainly see why Mary and Pam invited you to tea as a guest! Your vintage love and tea choices make you perfectly compatible! I am in love with the fact that your PA home was your childhood home, and the memories and items carried over into your life today, not to mention the garden plantings! I call evening primrose buttercups too, passed along to me from my sister’s mother-in-law who lived in the country.
Your tea, scones, marmalade and cream are all flavors I love, and your tea pottery is darling. So happy to have a peek into your summer home this way. I hope PA is having a cooler start to summer than we are here in West Virginia. It’s incredibly hot!

  12. So lovely Nancy. thank you for the invite. 4 years ago when my sister and her husband were getting ready to move to their new home in TN she was getting rid of a lot of home furnishings. At that time my daughter was moving into a new place and took my sisters dining room table and chairs. “There are so many memories in that set” my daughter says. It was my sister’s house that the whole family would gather to celebrate holidays. My daughter has the table and chairs in her dining room and is planning on having them refinished. I am so glad she cherishes those memories.

    1. Yes! I am so glad to hear that she does. Those fond memories mean the world to all of us. Thank you for joining me. Have a lovely week.
