Tuesday Tidbits #314 Marching Into Spring

March Has Come

And Spring Will Surely Arrive Soon

We Hope!

This clover grows in our gardens at our summer home. My Mom planted the clover 50+ years ago! It will bloom in a few months.

With the turning of the calendar page we find ourselves already in March. I wish I could slow down time but that’s impossible.

However, we have great news! The new calendar page brought Spring which officially arrived March 1st according to meteorologists!

Let Spring Begin!

Before we know it, beautiful flowers will be blooming all around us.

In our Pennsylvania yard, the very first sign that Spring has arrived is when the lovely Snowdrops start to bloom!

Here in AZ the first signs of Spring are when the citrus trees bloom.

And also when the orange mallow blooms along with the purple lantana.

March Brings Even More!

We have lots to celebrate in March.

The First is Fat Tuesday.

Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, so today we enjoy Fat Tuesday, where many people indulge in treats before giving them up for the Lenten season until Easter. I am not one to overindulge, but I will enjoy a Paczki today! When living in Cleveland, Ohio, I learned about this sweet delicacy. A Paczki is a delicious Polish donut.

Paczki

In the Midwest, especially in Ohio, the Polish delicacy is found in every bakery and grocery store on the day before Ash Wednesday. It is a treat that many look forward to each year on Fat Tuesday.

Out here in the Southwest they are harder to find. But sweet man somehow makes sure I get my Paczki each year!

Yum!

St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day is another day to look forward to in March.

We will start the day with Irish Soda Bread.

I will make a crockpot of Corned Beef, cabbage, and red potatoes to cook slowly all day for dinner. But for lunch, we will head out for Reubens and a green beer or a Guinness.

It’s a Lucky Day of delicious fun!

One year, I made Irish Cream. You can read about it Here and also get the recipe to make your own.

Another treat I will try to make sometime in March are homemade Potato Pancakes.

They are so good!

Spring Vignettes

I absolutely love sprucing up our home for Spring! It’s such a delightful way to bring new life and freshness to our place.

We are ready for St. Patrick’s Day! 💚

Spring tea!

Are You Ready for What March Brings?

Have you had a Paczki? Do you wear green on St. Patrick’s Day and celebrate by eating corned beef?

I hope I got you excited about what March will bring. Whatever you plan make it simple and make it fun!

Thank You

Enjoy planning your March Celebrations.

As I always try to convey… we sure do appreciate all of you. Thank you for joining us for another Tuesday Tidbits.

Happy March!

  1. Happy Fat Tuesday, Nance! You know this Polish guy ate a lot of Paczki in my Wonder Years! My family pronounced it Punch-Key. How did you say it in Pennsylvania?

    1. We say it the same way! I just enjoyed one. Yum in my tum!
I am glad you have enjoyed them.
Happy day to you Mr. Mark!

  2. Happy March and Happy Spring! I love the first photo of the clover. I’ve never had a Paczki but we recently had beignets in New Orleans and I always make Irish Soda Bread for St. Patrick’s Day.

  3. Oh my goodness…so much goodness in one post. I’ll be honest…the fact that we’re in March and St. Patrick’s Day is coming was totally off my radar. What a treat to pause and look at your blog and the photos of yummy treats and colorful blooms. A great way to start the day! And I smiled about the paczkis. They’re a big deal here in Chicago-land, too and TBH…I’m trying to avoid them. So…so…tempting! xo, Nancy! 🥰

    1. I am so glad you know all about Paczki’s! I just had a half of one and I am sure I will have another half later today. I hope to work the calories off in the garden today and a bike ride.
I am so happy you enjoyed this colorfulpost. I am trying to think SPRING!
Happy Day to you dear friend! 🥰

  4. You are living, breathing and sharing spring with these wonderful greens and yellows. I’m in the mood already! Paczkis are very big here in Michigan too. I haven’t had one in a few years but might have to indulge today! Soda bread and potato pancakes — eating well in your neighborhood! Happy March, happy week!

    1. Yes, we are, and hopefully, my walks, working in the garden, and bike rides keep the calories away from my thighs!
Thank you for stopping by, dear friend!
      🥰

  5. Good morning, Nancy. I enjoyed this beautiful round-up of what March has to offer. March always brings strong winds here and that is happening today. I love a reuben and I should make those, but RM is not a fan. I am always amazed at what returns each year in your mother’s garden planted over 50 years ago.

Happy Tuesday, my friend and enjoy a Paczki!

    1. I just had a half of one and hopefully will have the other half later today. I plan on working in the gardens and may take a bike ride so the calories will stay away! Right?
Thank you for the visit, my friend! Always so good to hear from you!

    1. I am hoping for Spring to come early for you, my friend.
After being in Pennsylvania last week, I need to be surrounded by color!
      Enjoy your Fat Tuesday!

  6. Nancy what a great “Spring time” reminder. I could close my eyes and remember all the wonderful signs of Spring back home in the Midwest. The yellow forsythia and purple crocus blooming and the robins singing are what I miss most while living in Florida. Your reminders with beautiful photos make my heart sing. Yes, I decorate for Spring and I am re-arranging my hutch with everything green including a few leprechauns. The Captain and I always enjoy my recipe of corned beef and cabbage with a reuben or two thrown in during the month. I have to admit I have never heard of a Paczki….though I have eaten plenty of jelly filled doughnuts. LOL (Perhaps I have eaten one but was not aware of the actual name…after all we had Polish, Amish, Swedish and the Czech Capital of Kansas very near my home town)… We in Kansas were quite the melting pot. Thanks for a pretty Spring parade of photos. Blessings my friend to you and your Sweet Man.

    1. Paczki’s are pretty much a donut. So I bet you have had one.
I am glad you are ready for the MarchGreen, and Spring colors.
      Happy Fat Tuesday, dear friend!

  7. As usual, everything looks so delightful, colourful and yummy, Miss Nancy. I shall have to investigate those Paczki – I’ve never heard of them before, but I’ll be on the look out and, now that they are on my radar, I’m going to look forward to seeing them everywhere 😂.

    1. They are delicious! They are very similar to a donut. I hope you can find some.
Thank you always for your kind words dear friend! You are so sweet!

  8. I love trying foods that are special to different cultures. I have never had Paczkis, but I would love to taste one if I ever get the opportunity. It is easy to get into the swing of St. Patrick’s Day when “everyone is Irish.” 😉 I love all of your spring pictures, and I wish you “Happy Spring” whenever and wherever you find it!

    1. Thank you! I think it has already arrived inside so now I need it to arrive outside as well.
      Thanks so much for enjoying.

    1. Thank you Ruth. We shared a Paczki so only half the calories. I am glad you know about paczkis!
I am looking forward to our Reubens!
Thanks for all your sweet comments.

  9. You remind me to pull out the green decor for March, Nancy. I forgot today was Fat Tuesday…explains how I feel today 😂 I always love seeing your seasonal decor. It’s still looking wintery here but the snow is gone. I’ll check out your recipes, too! Have a wonderful week, my friend!

  10. Cheerful, delightful post, Nancy. I’m not familiar with that most delicious looking treat, Paczki. Looks most delicious! Your plans, flowers and tea service, as always, are most inviting. Those adorable clover from your mom is precious! I love my ‘family’ flowers in our gardens! Happy March,,Nancy!

  11. Hi Nancy, I enjoyed my visit with you today! I do celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and fondly remember when my late hubby and I visited the Emerald Isle. After that, I’ll decorate for Easter. Happy weekend hugs!

    1. Hi Kitty, Thank you for visiting. We enjoyed visiting the Emerald Isle as well—such a beautiful place.
Thank you for your kind words. Enjoy the weekend as well!
