Tuesday Tidbits #365 Keeper of the Cloth and Happy March!

Hello Folks! Happy March! I am happy to say that today I’m sharing a special shamrock cloth adorned with Celtic knots. This cloth is quite special. Since 2010, it has journeyed from home to home each year, traveling miles upon miles and carrying a bit of shared tradition wherever it goes.

The Luck of the Irish has now come to me! I am happy to say that I am the 16th Keeper of the Special Shamrock cloth. I am so pleased to be part of this tradition!

History of the Cloth

It all started with Marigene In the Middle of Nowhere. The following year she sent it to Kathleen of Cuisine Kathleen. Marigene made it known that the cloth was to be sent to another blogger each year to make an annual showing. It is understood that the blogger who receives it keeps it quiet and they are known as “The Keeper of the Cloth.”

🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

In 2013 Rett of the Gazebo House was the new recipient. She then handed it off to Mary of Home is Where the Boat Is in 2014. Mary let a little leprechaun jump into the box with the cloth and so Sarah of Hyacinth for the Soul was the new Keeper of the Cloth in 2015.

The little leprechaun is enjoying Arizona!

In 2016 Kitty from Kitty’s Kozy Kitchen served tea on the special Shamrock cloth. Debbie of Mountain Breaths got to have fun with the Shamrock cloth in 2017 and she passed it off to Jenna of The Painted Apron in 2018. It stayed in Alabama and traveled just a few miles to Pam of Everyday Living in 2019. Pam then chose Rita of Panoply in 2020.

I made chocolate chip oatmeal shamrock cookies. They are delicious!

Linda of Life and Linda received the Shamrock Cloth in 2021. Linda has kept excellent records of who has had the special cloth. Thank you Linda!

🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

2022 Debbie’s Buzz was the next lucky recipient. In 2023 Ann of Corner of Plaid and Paisley enjoyed the cloth and then sent it to Kari of Me and My Captain in 2024. In 2025 Shannon of Belle Bleu Interiors was the Keeper.

🍀It’s Now My Turn!🍀

In 2026, I was chosen! I am the 16th Keeper! Let’s call it Sunny 16! Because I live in the Valley of the Sun!

We’re enjoying Irish coffee today in my vintage Belleek mugs. I couldn’t find fresh shamrocks for the Belleek vase, so I tucked in a bit of faux greenery instead.

We are enjoying Jameson Whiskey from Ireland in our Irish Coffee. The vintage Belleek mugs were a find several years ago in an antique store. I brought the Belleek vase back from Ireland a few years ago.

🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

I could not wait to use my vintage coffee pot from Cobridge, England.

The lid is quite pretty.

💚It is marked Queen’s Green Solian Ware.💚 Manufactured by Simpsons (Potters) LTD.

I love the Celtic Knots on this cloth.

These napkins were made in Ireland and my friend let me borrow them for this special occasion. She and her husband were married in Ireland.

A special gift from a cherished relative.

We must always add a bejeweled trinket box. Isn’t that correct Pam from Everyday Living?

Because it is 80° today, I lit a candle instead of a fire in the fireplace.

This little guy doesn’t want to leave. He loves the weather here!

We’d better eat the cookies before our little friend does!

It was an honor to serve as one of the “Keepers of the Cloth” and to be part of such a beautiful tradition. I will soon pass it along so it can continue its journey and be shared with us again in 2027.

🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

Ask Nancy

Have you ever been to Ireland?

I’m happy to say that we had a wonderful opportunity to visit Ireland a few years ago. It’s truly a beautiful place! We toured Dublin, Ireland and enjoyed a visit to Jameson Distillery.

Inside Jameson Distillery.

We then set out into the country to the small village of Blarney. I had to see Blarney Castle!

Blarney Castle

Climbing to the top of Blarney Castle and kissing the Blarney Stone are wonderful memories for me.

That’s me kissing the Blarney Stone. This is the only way to reach the stone.

We then visited the coastal town of Cobh in County Cork, Ireland. A colorful Irish Town.

Cobh, Ireland

Around the corner we found an old traditional Irish Pub called Rob Roy. These two fellows performed wonderful Irish Songs for us.

Such wonderful memories! We hope to visit Ireland again!

Let me leave you with this Irish Proverb.

Thank You!

Thank you all for being Good Friends!

Thanks for reading and for honoring the spirit of the Keeper of the Shamrock Cloth with me. Traditions like this are meant to be shared.

I hope you have wonderful plans for the rest of this week. If snow is still in your neck of the woods, stay warm and know the promise of Spring is coming.

Life and Linda

The cloth made it all the way to the Southwest! And little Lep the Leprechaun does not want to leave. He wants to go on an adventure into the desert. 😄

  3. So happy to open your post Nancy and see the cloth. It is always an exciting surprise to see “who” has it each year. I love that it is kept secret year to year. I certainly enjoyed it in 2024….and I especially like the ‘signed’ cloth part (including the pen) that travels with each ‘keeper of the cloth’. It still makes me smile. You did a beautiful job with your lovely Irish dishes AND your beautiful photos of ‘my’ Ireland. Yes, I love all the emerald green…and indeed it is the Emerald Isle…and I still have a dear friend who lives in Dublin and has shared with me so many Irish treasures over the years. Have a great and wonderful week….and the rest of the day to ye!☘️💚☘️

  17. What a fun surprise to see you as Keeper of the Cloth in 2026! I bet that little leprechaun will want to shave that beard while in the valley of the sun, lol. Lucky you to have spent time in Ireland. My paternal great grandfather’s people immigrated from Northern Ireland in the mid-1700s, and I am proud to be part of that lineage. I would love to travel Ireland someday. Beautiful table setting, Nancy!
