Tuesday Tidbits #283 Midsummer Dream

Hello, Tuesday Friends!

I’m thrilled to have you here. I hope you had a great week. It’s been a busy but truly enjoyable week for us.

For one thing, my poison ivy is clearing up. It was awful, but I’m on the mend, thank goodness!

Gardening

This week, the daily temperatures were a bit more tolerable. It makes for better days to get outside and work in the yard and gardens. Lots of spearmint was pulled (it took over), and the droopy hosta flowers were all trimmed back. I had five large garbage bags full for the trash pickup!

Our flowers are going through a growth spurt! I have Daisies almost as tall as me. The coneflowers are happier than ever, and my zinnias are blooming beautifully. Our annuals of petunias and begonias have been trimmed and are thriving—truly the best they’ve looked all summer!

Hummingbird Moth

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of watching a beautiful Hummingbird Moth fluttering around our Bea Balm. They are always such a delight to see! Have you ever seen one?

Summertime!

Summertime!

Do you remember the Summer days as a kid? For me, they were spent eating watermelon, licking popsicles before they melted, swimming in the lake, listening to our transistor radios out on the boat, and riding our bikes down to the penny candy store for ice cream treats. As an adult, Summertime is not quite the same as when I was a kid, but I sure do try to pack in some Summertime Fun. This week, I participated in the “Oars on the Shores Kayak Poker Float.” Two hundred kayakers made five stops as we floated all over our beautiful lake to pick up a poker card for our hand. As we floated by each other, we all reveled in the day’s beauty and forged connections with one another and nature. By the way, I had a horrible hand!

Another fun summertime moment for us this week was an impromptu gathering around a friend’s fire pit. These spontaneous visits with friends are such a pleasure. We laughed more than we chatted, and that’s what made it perfect. Impromptu visits are simply divine!

Stocking Up

Sweet Man got a load of fabulous firewood. We stacked it, and we are now ready for firepit season!

🔥🔥🔥

Early Corn

Summertime brings local farm fresh sweet corn! We are lucky to live in the heart of vast corn fields!

Sweet Man brought home fresh sweet corn!
It was delicious!

Our Skies

We all experienced the full moon called the Buck Moon a few nights ago. It was near the 55th anniversary of the time the astronauts walked on the moon. I never saw that historical moment. I was away at summer camp. My sister sent me a postcard describing “the giant leap for mankind.” Do you remember where you were?

A cell phone shot of the Buck Moon.

The next morning while making our morning tea this was the sunrise that greeted me outside my kitchen window.

Morning sunrise.

Thank You!

As I always try to convey… we sure do appreciate all of you. Thank you for joining us for another Tuesday Tidbits.

We are wishing all of you a wonderful week ahead. Enjoy what this upcoming week brings to you. And whatever you have planned… make every day count and be thankful for your Blessings.

  1. Beautiful summer blooms and … getting over a bout of poison ivy. May July turn to August with great things for you, Nance. Wow, where did I watch the moon landing? In our living room with the parents, I assume, but I hate to admit that I can’t recall exactly. Oh, yes, this thing called aging.

    1. Thanks for enjoying all the pictures. And yes, this thing called aging. 🥹
Just remember, we are not Old, just Older!

  2. Good morning, Nancy. Your garden flowers are beautiful and all of your garden is thriving. Butch loves to capture photos of hummingbird moths. You and Sweet Man make every moment count, whether on the lake boating or your kayak adventures, conversations with friends, gardening, or day trips! Corn is my favorite summer vegetable. The skies have been beautiful as we see the glory of our Creator!

    Happy Tuesday, dear one!

  3. Your posts are such a delight, Nancy! Your flowers look SO healthy and your adventures in and around the lake make me smile…including a progressive poker game! I love it! Thanks, too, for the mention of crackling transistor radios and penny candy stores in the summer. I remember! 🥰☀️🥰

    1. I had a fabulous childhood growing up by this lake! And I am so glad you too had a penny candy store!
Thanks for enjoying our week with us!
      Happy Trails to You!

  4. Such beautiful pictures Nancy and I am so glad your poison ivy is getting better. I love the beautiful sunrise from your kitchen window…it is my favorite time of day. I know your lake fun was calming and relaxing and I like your pink toes. I paint mine because I think it makes my feet look better! LOL I do remember with fond memories my childhood summers. They were wonderful…playing outside with bare feet and no cares. Your garden looks beautiful, and I know the daily care it needs. This is the second time of trying to comment…my computer gremlins are working today. LOL Have a great July my friend.

    1. I got your comment now, sweet friend! And how I enjoy hearing from you!
Thanks for all the love, Kari!
Happy Trails to you this week!

  5. Happy Tuesday Nancy! Your garden is full of so many beautiful flowers! The Oars on the Shores Poker Run sounds like it was so much fun! So glad you’re having a wonderful summer. Our schools start Aug 8, way too early if you ask me, and it makes it feel like summer is almost over! Have a great week!

    1. Oh No! School???
We didn’t go back until after Labor Day but that was due to needing the kids to help out with the hay fields and the farm harvests. Also back then there wasn’t any air conditioning in the schools. So September was cooler.
Thanks so much for all the love! Enjoy the rest of your week sweet friend!

  6. Happy Tuesday, Nancy! Now where do I begin…love the wings! I only have one pic of a hummingbird moth–aren’t they huge? Your garden looks cool and lovely and the firepit is ready to go. Your bee close-up is beautiful!

I saw the lunar landing in 1969 ( I was 9). We watched it on our small black and white TV. We watched so much Star Trek (with my dad) that is didn’t phase me until I was a little older. 🙂

Your kayaking activities look so fun. The rental properties are right on the lake! The kayak poker game sounds like fun, lousy hand or not 🙂 Have a wonderful week!

    1. Yes, those cabins all have a lake deck and you can rent them! Thank you for enjoying our week right along with us!
Enjoy the rest of your week my friend. Thanks so much for your sweet comments.

  7. Your garden flowers are thriving Nancy! Ours are past their peak and have struggled with our lack of rain. Your Kayak Poker Float sounds like such fun, whether you get a winning hand or not. 😊 It looks like you had the perfect weather for it. I have to confess, I’m ready to leave summer in the rear-view mirror and head for firepit season. Unfortunately, we have a long hot August and September ahead of us. Beautiful sunrise, Happy Tuesday. 💗

    1. That corn is delicious! We bought some more!
The flowers are making me very happy! The hard work pays off!
Enjoy the rest of your week, dear Linda.

  8. Nancy, your photography in this post is amazing. I loved the close up of the corn and the bee feasting on the flower. I hope you continue to enjoy the remainder of the summer.

  9. I’m hoping we’ll see sweet corn at the market this weekend. Your garden is clearly in the right spot and obviously getting good care. It looks terrific! And thanks for your visit to me, too!

    1. I always enjoy visiting with you, Jeannie!
Thank you so much for your visits and for enjoying our gardens and our week!
Happy Trails to you! I hope you find some sweet corn!
