Tuesday Tidbits #375 Goodbye May, Hello June

Hello and Welcome!

This hangs in our kitchen. A reminder to enjoy each pleasurable moment.

Another Tuesday has come! Welcome to another Tuesday Tidbits! Another busy week for us. There was a little decorating, family time, never-ending gardening, flower planting, visits with friends, boat cleaning, and even an evening around the fire pit. Simple Pleasures at their best! We even had a Once in a “Blue Moon” sighting!

Once in a Blue Moon! Even the bird is mesmerized!

Hello June!

June always feels like the month when summer finally settles in. The gardens are filling out, the flowers are blooming, and the days are long enough to enjoy an evening by the fire pit. It’s my favorite time of year. But somehow, even with all that, the to-do list hasn’t gotten any shorter. In fact, I think it’s growing. How does that happen?

Potting Bench

People often ask if I miss Arizona when I’m in Pennsylvania, or Pennsylvania when I’m in Arizona. The truth is, I have a little sanctuary in each place.

In Arizona, it’s my She Shed. It’s a space where I can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, and surround myself with things that make me smile. I love decorating it with seasonal touches, flowers, and treasures.

Just a little reminder of my She Shed in AZ. Here she was, all decked out for spring this past March/April.

In Pennsylvania, it’s my potting bench. While much simpler, it serves the same purpose. It’s where I arrange flowers, sit and have a cold iced tea or cocktail and spend time on the back patio. Just like my She Shed, I enjoy adding little decorative touches that make it feel cute and all mine.

And this summer I have changed the potting bench up a bit. I decided to go with a Strawberry Theme until I change it again. I like to play when I am not busy with gardening and such.

Here She Is!

I shopped our house and grabbed everything red. I had strawberries, strawberry plates, and cups, etc. The only thing new are the pillow covers. I found those on Amazon. There are stories behind several pieces. I love birdhouses, so I placed them all on the upper shelf. The red mason jar came from a dear friend with a bouquet in it. The red wooden shoe was my Mom’s, and its match is in the sunroom. The strawberry plates are from Avon, and I got them last year from an antique store. That strawberry tray is old and from an antique store in the country, where there were lots of peacocks roaming the property. The small vintage red oil can was given to me by a blogging friend who lives here in town. The basket holding the terracotta pots was found at a garage sale, where the woman running it was in a bikini, a cigarette hanging from her mouth as she talked. She was the sweetest!😄

Do you have a special corner, room, garden bench, or outdoor space that brings you joy? I’d love to hear about it.

Cleveland, Ohio

I made a trip into Cleveland, Ohio. It’s about an hour and a half away. But guess who lives in Cleveland? Family! That’s who! I got to babysit my grandson! I had a blast! He will be two in July!

My son and grandson! That little one runs the whole entire block! He stops only to point at something. I could not keep up with him!

Blooming Flowers Around Me

“The Earth laughs in flowers.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

My neighbor’s peony has several blooms.💛

And her other peony does too. 🩷

My Siberian irises are in full bloom.

My other neighbor has these gorgeous lupines.

First Fire of the Season

We had our first fire in the fire pit. It was wonderful to relax and listen to music while watching the fire. It’s so very comforting.

I love a fire!

Why Did You Start Blogging?

~Image Made by ChatGPT~

When I started this blog about 12 years ago, I had recently retired and was looking for a way to chronicle our adventures. I wanted to share the places we visited, the things we experienced, and the stories along the way. ALL OF OUR ADVENTURES needed to be recorded.

What I didn’t realize at the time was that it would also become a place to record all those in between moments—the gardens, the changing seasons, tea time, home decor, recipes, and the simple everyday things that make life so special. All those SIMPLE PLEASURES needed recorded too. This is like a digital journal for me. It helps me keep track of memories from a long time ago. Whenever I need to recall something from the past, I simply look it up in my search bar.

Then I decided to change my blogging to a weekly format that’s when Tuesday Tidbits was born.

I also began to grow a virtual family. The blogging community is quite special. When I started this blog, I thought I was creating a place to document our adventures. What I didn’t expect was the wonderful community that would grow from it. Over the years, many of you have become dear friends. Some of you I have met. And some of you, I often feel, we have met. We’ve celebrated happy times together, offered encouragement during difficult days, and shared pieces of our lives with each other. I’ve come to look forward to your visits and comments. I so enjoy our friendships. I really enjoy blogging and plan to continue.

Thank You!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who takes the time to read my weekly posts—you all mean a lot to me!

Blogging Friends are Leaving

Lately, I’ve noticed several bloggers who have stepped away from blogging. Have you noticed that too? Some haven’t posted in months, while others seem to have disappeared altogether. Have they gone to Social Media instead? I sure do miss them.

Life has a way of changing our plans. Family responsibilities, health issues, busy schedules, and everyday demands can easily push blogging to the bottom of the list.

I really do miss those who have left. It’s like a family member packing up and moving out of town. I also wonder about those who never said goodbye. I hope they are okay.

For now, I’m grateful to still be here sharing my little corner of the world with all of you. Like I said earlier I do enjoy blogging and plan to continue. Thank you all for being here!

Happy June! Happy Summer!

  1. I enjoyed reading this post, Nancy! It’s always fun to read the history behind a blog and I think most of us would agree about your thoughts of community/friendship, etc. that can happen. I love all of your pictures including those moon shots. Stunning! And your potting bench- just June perfect (really perfect for the entire summer but I associate June with berries!). Love all of your touches and that you got items from someone as loved as your mom and someone as lovely in a bikini at a garage sale who was sweet :). How wonderful to spend time with family! Enjoy your day!

  2. Nancy, the time spent with your grandson is priceless, and I know those special visits create memories you’ll treasure for years to come. Your strawberry theme was absolutely delightful and couldn’t be more perfect for this time of year on your potting bench…so charming!🍓 Wishing you a wonderful June filled with family time, garden blooms, and plenty of sweet strawberry moments! ❤️🌿🍓

    1. Thanks so much, sweet Mary! I love the strawberries and the color red on the potting bench. I am sure that come July, I will add some blue! Thanks always for your lovely comments.

  3. Good morning Nancy🍓❣️🍓
I had such fun reading about your stories (especially the bikini lady) and then finding all the cute things on the potting bench shelves.
I couldn’t believe how time has flown and your sweet grandson is now two!! I’ve never been to Cleveland and enjoyed seeing that beautiful photo of the Terminal Tower building…
The blooming flowers are so pretty!
I’m sure to be humming Sum-sum-summertime today! Loved that song even as a youngster!
So nice to hear your plans include continuing your blog, I so enjoy it❣️
    Have a wonderful week!

    1. I am so glad you enjoy my posts. I have so much fun putting them together. It is actually one day when I take the time to sit for most of the day. lol!
Thank you always for your lovely comments.
      Happy June, Sue!

  4. Your posts make me smile, Nancy. The moon was beautiful, but didn’t look blue to me?🤣 The way you make both your homes inviting and cheerful is delightful! Yes, I have noticed a few bloggers not posting anymore. But I agree with you, and though I have few followers, I enjoy blogging as well. Happy Tuesday, Nancy!

    1. It just makes me sad because I enjoy reading others’ blogs. Blogging makes me take the time to sit. I am always doing, and sometimes it’s just good to sit.
Thanks for your lovely comments. They make me smile. Happy June my friend!

  5. Nancy, I always enjoy your Tuesday Tidbits. Grandson time is the best! You are lucky he lives so close to you. I enjoyed reading the stories about the treasures on your potting bench.

I also enjoyed reading about your blogging journey. I can remember when you started the Tuesday Tidbits. I’m glad to hear you will continue blogging!

Why did I start blogging? My story is similar to yours. I started Wandering Dawgs as a way to keep friends and family updated as we took a four month RV trip from Georgia to Alaska and back. Once I was home I continued blogging about other RV trips and random things at home. Along the way I started making blogging friends. I’ve also noticed a few blogging friends are leaving. I wish them all well.

    Happy Summer!

    1. I wish them well too. I am however sad because I miss them. So many were inspirations.
Thanks for enjoying my Tuesday Tidbits. It’s a rhythm I can stick too. And you know I enjoy your photo challenges. You always knock them out of the ballpark.
      Happy June Beth!

  6. The toddle age is such a fun time. My almost four-year-old granddaughter spent five days with us in May and next week I’ll have her again for four days. By the end of those days, I look forward to returning her so I can rest. 😁

It has been over a year since my last blog post, and I never did write a farewell post because I wasn’t sure I was really done. There are days I miss all the interaction and love the friendships made along the way, but felt upset, almost violated, with my posts and photos constantly being stolen. It made me feel like I couldn’t be myself with my story telling because some stranger from another country would be using my words and photo on their blog …. all for clicks.

I always love all your garden/floral images. At this time of year, I truly miss the lushness of the Midwest and rely on you for a flower garden fix.🙂

    1. I truly miss your blog posts, but I am thankful that we can meet for coffee at our favorite little spot every so often to catch up.
I have found that not having my whole post show up in the reader helps with blogvrepisting etc. The click over to my actual blog slows it down. A happiness engineer said that it could be helpful.
Thank you always for your visits. And who knows, you might start up again.
4 days! Pretty tiring, but how fun! Our little guy is going to be in track when he grows older. He loves to run!
Happy June, Ingrid. Stay cool and enjoy your littles.

  7. I sure enjoyed reading this post, Nancy! How special you have your go-to places in each home where you can feed your creativity! Your potter’s bench looks so festive. I’ve started the red, white, blue theme throughout the house already in honor of the upcoming 250th anniversary. Im sure you will do it up big.
Fun to see your grandson running, that’s all they know how to do at this age!
Sad to see some bloggers hanging up their blogs. Enjoy your week ahead!

    1. I have red, white, and blue outside as well for the 250th Birthday Celebration. The family will be here, so I’ll be doing it up inside as well.
I am happy that we have met, even though I was on a cruise when you were here last. You are always a wonderful source of great information and inspiration. I enjoy your posts very much.
      Thanks for all the love.
      Happy June!

  8. Nancy, your potting bench makes me smile. I love strawberry decor, but I also like how you have expanded that theme with so many red things and even a little fairy. It is not “matchy-matchy,” and in this case, that is a good thing. So cute! What makes me smile even more is the picture of your son and grandson. You even captured them with the same foot in the air. I remember when you “introduced” your grandson to your blogging friends. His birth seems like yesterday, and yet now he is almost two and hard to keep up with. What a blessing children are!💜

    1. Thank you for the sweet comments. I am loving all the color on the potting bench. The red just pops. And thanks for pointing out that their same foot is up in the air when walking. I now love that picture even more. I appreciate your visits. Happy June!

  9. Hello Nancy. You have been busy these past days! I always love seeing your AZ She Shed, but equally enjoy your PA potting bench. I would enjoy so much sitting and having a glass of iced tea and admiring your strawberry-themed potting bench! It is a beauty, love all the red and those cute birdhouses. I would enjoy the stories behind every piece. A garage sale with the woman wearing a bikini and a cigarette hanging from her mouth while she talked is hilarious🤣 I can’t believe your grandson will turn two in July. That is such a fun age. The Terminal Tower in Cleveland is a beautiful sight against the sky. Don’t we love peonies?!! Lupines are beautiful and sitting around the fire pit is a sure place for stories being told!

We started blogging about the same time. I started because I wanted a creative outlet after I retired from my interior decorating business. I have enjoyed the journey. It seems that many bloggers have quit and so many have passed away. I don’t think the audience is as large as it used to be. I treat my blog as a journal for my grandchildren and like you when I need to recall an event or an experience I can find it on my search bar. We have never met, but I feel as if we have. I look forward to more of your Tuesday Tidbits my friend❤️

    1. Oh, Pam, I feel the same way. We have never met, but I feel like you live right around the corner. We chat so easily.
Thanks for all the love. I appreciate your sweet words. Happy June!

  10. I’m enjoying your festive art pillows, strawberry decorating, gardening and making time to celebrate life with your sweet grandson! Grandchildren just grow up way to fast these days! 💖💖💖

Thank You So Much... for sharing your kind words. I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to share your thoughts.
